Why not the PB 12 Ultra, rather than the PB 12/2 Plus? That would be my first choice, irrespective of room size. It would be more than enough, while having the benefit of the Ultra driver.

i did consider that... but, can the single "ultra" driver in the pb12-ultra beat out the two "plus" drivers in the pb12-plus/2?

The PB12/2+ can beat the PC Ultra in output by 4 or 5db... - it is for larger rooms (around 30x30)

If your buying a SVS sub or any sub for that matter, first consider the room it's going, figure out the level of the system it's going in and try to match as best you can.

    Dan

a call to SVS would also help.

i'm sorta leaning toward choice #3 - the pb12-plus/2. but man, oh man would i love the looks of the cylinder sub. catches one's eye. but it all comes down to sound vs style. the pb12-plus/2 is pretty damned purty as well and still bares the svs logo. ya'll know what i mean.

I went through the same thing...
I wanted the plus/2, but after talking with SVS for a while I decided to get the Ultra.
My room is 14x24 with 8-10 Vaulted ceilings..

This thing rocks...I still wonder what the other one would sound like though

I also wanted the ultra driver...If you look on thier website, you can see a huge difference in the drivers.

I am now trying to decide wheather to get the pb10 or pb12 for my other rig...(and maybe 2ch rig)

I`m not sure I want a sub in the 2ch rig, but the subs are outstanding, and the price is fair, so...

They also have a return policy I believe..

It came down to space for me, thats why I went tube..
If you have room for the box, and the wife doesn`t mind....the plus/2 is a monster
Of course the ultra aint no slouch either..!!

I know I`m not much help...
you would be happy with the ultra, but because the plus/2 has 2 drivers, it will probably put out a little more than the single ultra

I still keep mine between the 9 & 10 o`clock position...and even at that with Master & Commander, you will think a grenade went off under your chair.!!

FYI, the cylinders are MUCH larger than they appear in any pictures. ask anyone who has one. they don't always look good in a room.. and they don't have very high WAF (wife acceptace factor). just something to keep in mine.

While i liked the sound of mine.. it was hard to disguise and blend into a room. if i had to do it over. i would no doubt go with a box sub.

The Ultra sounds* better than the ISD and + - it sounds so different. No lie...

The PB 12/2 + will BE LOUDER, and thats it. It wont sound the same on any margin.

The Ultra is known to have a sound unlike any other SVS. Its just the Ultra driver...

The Ultra driver is their best driver, and for a VERY good reason. It is VERY smooth, VERY fast and just... effortless. Its never directional, and never noticeable and just shakes everything in the neighborhood. A true beast.

The woofer alone weighs 40-45 pounds.

My Dad owns that sub -- the only reason you would need a PB 12/2 + is if you have a LARGE* like, insanely large room - which my Dad has, he has a room that is 35x35x9-12 + a few hallways and such, just insanely large - so it takes alot to fill it up.

If your room is smaller than 30x30 with regular ceilings, the PC Ultra will be more than you ever need.

In other words, if your looking for output and mostly looking for movies performance, the PB 12/2+ is yours. The PC Ultra would be more for a music sub in comparison. You either want shear force or shear force with some finese. ;)

definately want both ht and music. that's why i felt alright about choosing rti8's for surrounds vs fxi5's - though i'm sure i'd be happy with both. but i want the kick from a kick drum along with the low resonating vibrations that come from synthesized bass and lfe movies and what not. best of both worlds. yes, i can have it all. you think the pc-ultra is the ticket? room is 36'x12'x8' ceilings. bass travels beyond my sitting position into the kitchen. i sit about 13' from the sub's location. the bass just blows by me and does not reflect until it hits the kitchen wall 23' behind me.

The Ultra is the ticket man...

    Look at it this way...

You have a Crotch rocket motorcycle which can go REAL fast, but sounds pretty good.

But then you have something like a Harley (minus the mechanical issues and a trailor + cell phone) that dosnt go as fast but sounds reallly* good.

Both are great bikes, but one makes the car beside you roll down the window to take a listen...

The PC Ultra is the Harley, it dosnt go as loud as the PB 12/2+ (only by 4 or 5 db) but it has the sound no other SVS has except the Ultra model subs. It has an incredibly full sound - that is fast and amazingly accurate. You get the extention the PB12/2+ would give you, plus better music performance.

my room is 14x24 w/ 8-10' vaulted ceiling..
I have a hallway and an openeing into my kitchen on the wall behind me..

    I have the Pc-Ultra...
    does an outstanding job..

The box w/2 subs will definately pressurize the room, but like I`ve said before...my Ultra has no problem meeting my requirements....at 9-10 o`clock on the gain
and it sounds awesome with music as well

If I could afford it I would get the PB12 Ultra/2 ...that would be the only "upgrade" from what I have that I would personally consider...unless you have deep pockets and swing the biggest baddest one out there the PB12 ultra/4 ..!!!

basically it comes down to this..IMHO
If ya want a box go with the PB12 plus/2
If ya go tube...the PC-Ultra is the answer..

    Just my .02..

darn folks.........i greatly appreciate your opinions. at least you've helped me narrow it down to only two subs. i don't think i'll go with the 16-46pc+. good god, i'm also emailing back and forth with ron over at svs. he really digs the pc-ultra, but agrees that the pb12-plus/2 will fill up a bigger room a little better. he also suggested two pc-ultras. but that is out of my price range. i know either the pc-ultra or pb12-plus/2 will both wet my willy, and that i can't go wrong with either one. so perhaps as beardog03 says......it's gonna come down to a sweet **** cylinder or a massive and awesome big box. still have yet to decide. for now, thank you all for being so patient with me. :D

thanks all for participating in my little poll here (i didn't say little "pole" btw). when i scrape up some more credit, i believe i'm going with the pb12-plus/2. ron over at svs majorly suggests i go that route as well. mostly because of the larger volume of space i must fill. but..........knowing myself as i do, i'll be continually debating both subs, still, till i finally lay down some plastic and get 'em.

Option 3 is the best bang for the buck for volume/performance. If you don't have a large room though, the Ultra with more finesse is the way to go.

just an update for all whom may or may not care........

i was messin' around with a pda/cell phone forum as i just purchased a new bad-as* phone and guess who i bumped into.......erik from svs. anyway, i made mention on the cell phone forum that i was into home theater and he chimes in with the fact that he is an owner of svsubwoofers.com. i told him about my two choices in this poll, pc-ultra vs. pb12-plus/2 and he, along with ron stimpson, prefers the pb12-plus/2 a bit over the pc-ultra. and it just so happened that they had a newly-returned unit -- b-stock. so i jumped on it as if it were fate!

.....problem now is...........gotta keep myself company/occupied with my current sony sub until the svs comes on thursday!!

welp, just emailed erik and asked him to "one up" me to a brand new unit. just wanted to be sure. kinda like buying a new, yet test-driven car. it'll come with a factory warranty and quite possibly look brand-spankin' new, but for only $100 more, i'll take the new, new unit. i'm the anal type who would want one brand new from not the test-driven showroom floor model, but from the manufacturer. so, keep your eyes peeled for the b-stock i just re-nigged on.

Would say go with the Ultra. I've auditioned the different types of drivers, and while they all do a very good job, the Ultra just has something that others don't have so much.
When I watched their demo with the incredibles, the Ultra made the that tactile bass happen not just through the ground, but through the air too. It was definately something I wish I coulda had (but I'm still on a budget, and hey, the PB12-ISD/2 isn't so bad anyways ;) )

EDIT: I really need to stop skimming.

well, being that i'll probably never get to hear a pc-ultra, i hope i made the right choice. the peeps at svs say it'll be better. of course, only due to dual drivers. i'm sure the pc-ultra would blow away a box sub with only one "plus" woofer. mjr7531, did you ever audition the pb12-plus/2? you say you've auditioned the different drivers, but have you heard the "pb12-plus/2" itself?

 oh my damn!! now i'm gonna attempt not to jump all aboard the SVS bandwagon, but damn!! my cheap sony sub was a VERY good sub for around $250, but i knew what i was missin'. i am no stranger to bass. my two jl audio twelves in my hatchback z-28 absolutely pour out the bass. that is the sound i wanted in my home theater/music. yes, i am very much so a basshead! period.

so i get home and eagerly await the shipping truck to arrive with my pb12-plus/2. ups won't ship anything of this size or weight. i was prepared for something big, so the size was not an issue. in fact, i over-prepared myself as i felt the sub was rather on the smaller side than what i'd come to expect.

let there be no questions.....i am no longer missing out on what i knew for a fact i was indeed living without. i am not so much ready to have the owners tea-bag theirselves in my mouth or anything, but for the price, i'm exuberated with the wallop their creation in a dual sub box produces. the sub-audible sub-bass vibrates my innards in such a very nice way. takes me to the peak of my ecstasy. call it a bassgasm (already been coined), if you will. i finally have that in-your-face thump and thud that slaps my body from all sides.

again, i am not saying svs or their builders/creators are geniouses deserving to be marveled, but they offer a stupendous, affordable low-end package deserving of a thank you. as well do all of those who helped me with my poll. thank you all and i believe i can now claim to have "graduated" to a "near-complete" home theater system. it is not "complete" as i could always upgrade my interconnects and what nots.
