the tracking number verified that it will be here this Thurs. I just may have to pick up the sub at their dock. My wife is going to go with me, do you guys think that it would be a problem if I was to sit the sub inbetween me and her as i go home? I am hoping that she won't get jealous. :):)

My wife sort of held neutral ground until I played a few demos and then she began to realize subs do make a difference. She now prefers using one......lucky me. :)

no doubt!!! mine came on some wierd pressed-board eggcrate-type thing. seriously, i'm strong, but i needed the aid of another just to take the sub off the crate! then i slid that puppy into its place by placing it on top of a shower towel and sliding it over the tile floor.

    allright guys,

I picked up the sub and finally have it in its resting place. I prepared myself for the size, so I really wasn't surprised when I first saw it. Don't get me wrong, it is BIG!!!.

I first set the calibration to 3 db hotter than all my other speakers and wasn't blown away with the outcome. I played all kind of dvd's that they suggested, the sound was there but it wasn't quite loud enough. I have the volume knob on the sub set on the 3rd hash mark, 1/4 of the way up.

I then thought of boosting up the preamp base level to 2 db's higher. This will have my calibration to around 4 or 5 db higher than the other speakers. After that, it was all she wrote. This thing made a huge diff. with only two db extra, go figure.

Do you guys think that running your sub roughly 4-5 db higher than the rest of your speakers is too high. I have all my speakers set to 75db and sub is 79-80 db.

The door scene on the Matrix Reloaded is GUT WRENCHING to say the least. Could not believe it, my walls behind me were either making noise or moving

What are you calibrating with, Avia?

Sure, that's a little on the hot side, but for action DVDs it's not out of the realm of normal. You bought the sub for clean, deep, and high output bass so you might as well enjoy it.

Your calibration level with Avia will be affected by the speaker channel you select. Try each speaker channel in the front stage and note the differences. Pick the channel that is most representative of the average (i.e., discard the high and the low).

Also try the speaker channel physically closest to the subwoofer and reverse the phase on the subwoofer and note the differences. Whichever phase setting gives you more SPL on the subwoofer tone will be the most "in phase" with that speaker channel.

my gain know is at twelve o'clock. again, tune by ear to your liking. only you can answer your own question as to if 4-5 db is too much. i've re-watched all of my movies. everything is new again. on i, robot, the part where sonny is hiding amongst the 1000 unprogrammed robots and he escapes through the bay door and ascends the side of the building, only to get netted by that futuristic helicopter ship thinggie....WOW! the bass coming from that ship is rediculous!!!

My volume (gain) knob is set around 11:00 for music and 1:00 for movies. I'm not an expert but as long as it isn't bottoming out it "could" be set at maximum without any problems.

    Everybodys room will be different.........Enjoy

here in arizona you have a few choices. brick, stucco, masonry/stucco, and adobe. all have positives and negatives, but as well, all have windows. my windows are what get to me the most. geesh, do i have to upgrade to triple-pane windows with quality installation to fulfill my desire for rattleless home theater? windows are expensive!
