So much for our civil engineering marvels. Jeez, lets build a few more major cities next to the ocean below sea level. Watching the people of New Orleans being rescued from rooftops is heart breaking to say the least. And on another note, shoot those ****, scumbag looters. People fighting for their lives and you have this crap going on.
And a special regard goes out to our men and women in uniform helping the more unfortunate to safety.
Just my little say here.

I wholeheartedly agree, but just want to note that New Orleans was not "built" at all, but is on ... shaky ground and has just sunk over the past hundreds of years to below sea level - at some point in relatively recent history it was in fact "above" sea level. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Same thing for Florida. If they gave me a house I wouldnt live there. They get clobbered 5 or 6 times a year!
There was a guy on the new today that said this was the third time his house has been flattened so he was selling and getting the hell out of Dodge!
Just for the record, Im in no way saying that the people of New Orleans or Florida deserve what happened to them, just stating that I will never live near a coastline!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Interesting. But why continue to develop an area that when you look out the front window of your house the boats on the other side of the levee are higher than you...build it, they will come.

Actually, NJ is very perty north and west...and some of the best motorcycling roads in the northeast.suds, suds and more suds! -
Boston is on the coast, and I wouldn't move away from here for all the money in the world. We have relatively few natural disasters, but not hte best climate either. The occasional snowstorm, low key hurricane once every ten years... and that's it.
Being on the water is just... something inexplicable. I get more than an hour from the coast and I freak out.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
as for the looters, I say you get the SWAT, FBI, Marines, Army... you name it, and get them on rooftops and let them have some moving target practice. Hell, make a game out of it. They'd actually be HELPING humanity by getting these worthless people off the streets.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Lou,
It's unfortunate you feel that YOUR part of Jersey is the armpit of the U.S. Why you would feel that way, while only a short drive from the greatest metropolis in the world, is anybody's guess
We down here in the beautiful, southern part of the state have no such stigma. We know that we live across the river, a BIG river, from Filthadelphia, America's true armpit.
It's a shame about the destruction down on The Gulf Coast. The poor and less than fortunate are really going to take it in the shorts. They always do. We have an awful lot of "rebuilding" to do down there. I hope our country has the finances and wherewithal to "stay the course".

bobman, you forgot to mention you have the SOX!suds, suds and more suds! -
In Arizona we have a law called the "Stupid Motorist Law." It was brought into effect after a number of dim-bulbs decided to drive thru washes that were clearly marked "DO NOT ENTER, FLOODED WASH" and then had to be rescued or recovered if they didn't survive.
What the "SML" does is charge offenders with the total cost of the rescue, and an additional fine for pulling firefighters away from real tragedies. Maybe these hurricane zones need "I'm Stupid I was told to evacute but stayed Law." Now rescuers have to risk their lives because these idiots decided to "tough it out" yeah, right.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

I agree Steve. The depleted number of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi National Guardsmen are probably a great aid to the local law enforcement in this real tragedy. We probably should institute a national policy of the SML, and fine ANYONE who distracts them from their real state mission.

Well yeah. However, If I was in the same position as those in New Orleans, It would be very difficult for me to leave my home. I'm not really sure how I would react. My stubborness often supersedes my intelligence.suds, suds and more suds! -
The engineering involved to protect N.O. is impressive. But it's next to impossible to prepare for this type of event. Some people can't leave, some are just dumb.
Instant execution for looters, no exceptions.
I like the sound of the SML. Maybe immediate euthanasia to bolster the gene pool... -

amulford, I respect your opinion here but if it is so impressive, why am I looking at the horrific pictures being shown on the news channels. This area is prone to hurricanes.
Also, a lot of people with few resources did leave for shelters and now find themselves in the same position as those that didn't.
Sorry, but I'm really not sure why the aftermath of hurricane Katrina is having such an affect on me.
And the videos of these damn looters is driving me crazy....staring right at the news cameras and smiling and making "in your face" gestures. I'm freakin losing it.suds, suds and more suds! -

Me too...those pieces of trash have no regard for their own situation. They also have no respect for those shop owners who will definately face financial difficulties as a result of the hurricane.Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

gshisme- you can bet that some of those folks will be recognized by the local authorities, and charged accordingly. Staring at a camera when you're stealing is not the greatest idea, no matter who you are....Ludicrous gibs!

"Public sympathy" will last about two weeks. Those folks down/over there will not recover for a long time. There will be thousands of deaths before this is over. I've heard of some reports of the rescuers just pushing the bodies out of the way to get to the survivors. Where are the concerts/specials to "support" the victims or is that for the rest of the liberals world. As for the looters, a .308 to the head and move on.>

Polkersince85, Points are taken. But PLEASE keep the politics out. And yeah, my scoped AR-10 would work just fine.suds, suds and more suds! -
I live right above Florida and for some reason a hurricane hasn't had a direct hit on the Georgia coast in some unGodly amount of time, over 100 years. They slam Florida or skirt up over us into the Carolinas. Boston has been hit with more hurricanes than we have. Now Tornadoes are a different story

We can only hope. Unfortunately, that is just a small consolation for us for their actions.

Im in south Tennessee right on the Georgia and Alabama border and we got a ton of wind with a lot of power outtages and an **** load of rain but nothing serious anywhere. I think we got wind up to 40 mph last night and it gusted in the 30's today but thats about it.I believe Shack is from Tennesse as well...anyone hear from him?
Shack lives only 90 minutes north of me so I doubt anything other than a lot of wind and rain hit there.
This is why I think Tennessee is the best place in the country to live. Seasons only last 3-4 months before changing, its never extremely cold or hot, no hurricanes or tornados, no volcanos or earthquakes. We get a **** load of rain and the remnants of hurricanes but its never anything serious.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
