When I'm feeling down, I go for a good run. A good run helps me clear my head and I feel a lot cleaner on the inside too....

    Mike,
Do you run to the point of getting the "runners high"?

I used to...I ran cross-country in high school. Runners high is an awesome feeling. You feel like you can run forever; feels like you are on auto pilot. You also feel like you can tackle the world...

It takes a while to get to that point. I will get "high" once in a while, especially when I stick with a running pgm and actually run some good distance.

Running helps me a lot though. Even just doing a mile can have a really help me get out of a funk

    Eff running. It SUCKS.

Now, I'm not saying that medication can't help nor do I look down on those who take anti-depressants. I am saying that those who just throw in the towel have made a concious (sp) to do so.

Come on, sometimes you can't help it.. Ive not thrown in the towel or got to that point ever.. However the mind is very powerful and in tough times can take control... If everyone could just "handle" things, the world would be much different and no one would be on meds.. reality check! Its not how it is.. I'm not trying to start anything, But you seem to have never truely had any hard times in your life to respond like that.. That's like saying to alcoholics, Just stop drinking ....... Just my 02 cents

Now, how in the hell would you know what I have or haven't gone through? I've been through a divorce...the love of my life is a cancer survivor along with a life-long dibiltating (sp) disease. I recently learned that I can't have children,m y father recently had quadruple bypass and I've spent 12 of the last 30 months living in a tent 10,000 miles away from home on top of the year I spent away from my family in Korea. So I *think* I may know what I am talking about

I'm not saying that we don't all have down days or get the blues once in awhile but at the end of the day, regardless of what is going on 1. I know that I lead a blessed life and there are those FAR less fortunate. 2. Giving up or letting negativity take over accomplishes absolutely nothing. 3. Wallowing in self pity, over the long haul is pointless, everyone has issues to deal with.

You wanna see someone deal with adversity? Talk to my wife.

My daughter got a bogus brain. Sid got a decent one (albeit unused). You want to tell me what is positive about that other than Sid doesn't live with me?

There's plenty of hardship that can't be overcome with a positive outlook, or a freakin' Bobby McFerrin jingle.

By all appearances, many of us HERE at this forum can afford nice things. We can afford to deal financially with most of the problems that left unattended would prove to become much larger hardships. The cascade or "trickle down" effect (a REAL one, not imagined or hoped for, or sold like a bill of goods type trickle down effect).

Okay? Get the big picture? Take a debilitating problem like my daughter's, or like Wendi's, and hand it to somebody that doesn't have squat, and no likelihood of ever HAVING squat, and you have misery and hardship on a pretty good scale. The two examples I gave are really just the tip of the iceberg.

Agreed to an extent, mon frere......

My point is that you can't control what happens to you, obviously. All you can control is how you react and deal with it.

Not to brag on Wendi but she was first told that she would be restricted to a wheelchair.. Now, she could have accepted that at face value and not even tried. She didn't and she gets around pretty well.

She was told that she probably wouldn't be able to attend school and that she could just draw Social Securtiy disability. She not only went to high school, she got her 4 yr degree at the College of Charleston and holds down steady employment. Never drew the first dime of disability.

Wendi will tell you it's all about attitude...

I agree to an extent about the financial aspect but Wendi wasn't born with a silver spoon, her folks spent years paying off some hefty medical bills. You just do what you have to do.
