Car sub drivers and home sub drivers are basicly the same. Car subs may look better, because they may not be in a dark corner like at home.
It amy not be a good idea to put a new driver in your sub. That enclosure was designed to use the driver you had. By adding another driver, you create a bad sound, full of distortion and port noise.
There are many many specs involved in drivers, (subs) that should be considered when installing a new driver. If you did change the driver, try stuffing the box even more then it allready is.
Hope it helps! -
So could you technically take a car sub and make a case for it and use it as a sub for your HT? Would there be any bad effects from it? Thanks!

Here is a interseting fact. The psw1200 uses 2 12 inch car sub's.
How's that??

DB, DX, or Momo?Oh, the bottle has been to me, my closes friend, my worse enemy!

OIK (wow imdrunk) I know a litleabout this. Now in my first thread I mentioned I have a Jensen sub (which sucked would have used blew but that could add cofusion). So I added a MTX 6000 (car sub) which I had laying around. the Jensen down firing 8" was left as a passive radiator adding a little volume and increasing the "feel" of the bass. The final result sounds better. No port was added since I am no fan of chuffing (I belive that is the term). Oh and it looks pretty damned cool to.The guy with $40.00 mains and a $700.00 subwoofer.

nascarmann: DB, DX, or Momo?
each. I LOVE my PSW1200. -
The psw1200 does not use car subs. The woofers cones, suround and dust cap are of the same construction as the DB car subs. I know cause I thought the same thing. But since I own one I did a little checking out on that thought.
A car sub would work just as good. There just built to look better. Some good choices would be Momo's, Alumapro alchemy's, or Diamond audio mack dadies. -
I don't think car subs are built to the same standard as home subs. Cars have alot less room inside and therefore need less air to be pushed. They are designed to go low, but not as musical. Sit 4 ft. away from our PSW(whatever). Pretty damn low and loud. But tat's just my thoughts.
Ask the "Infield Forum". Kim is pretty smart and responsive.
I've always thought about putting some 25i(s) in the back of the wagon. At $80/pr the rt10i(s) might get this chance.Make it Funky! -
I think they are car sub's.Mich.........are they or not????I heard they were!!Dan

Car subs and home subs are the same!!! Some car subs for music, some home subs for HT. Some just go boom. (cheep car/home subs) The box, amp, and design of the driver are what determins a good sub. (and the sound)
I don't know about the psw1200. Is it polk? I can't find it on the site! -
Yeah the PSW1200 is a polk sub. I believe they made them around 1998-2000. I don't really know. But it's definitly polk.

I am going to venture to say that the 1200 did not use ANY of Polks autosound designs....
1 reason fellas, the 1200 is ported. Porting is a no-no for Polk car subs, ESPECIALLY the momo series....
Bandpass or sealed only....and they can handle much larger amounts of power than any past or current home model....
(I did hook up my EX10 in its sealed box to my Luxman R113 and fed it the LFE in home theater...sounded pretty good actually....)
