    All I get is 7s (have 6 now, but tonight may give me the 7).

    The Jets keep falling deeper into the crapper. Bollinger out with a head injury and vinnie twists his ankle! I think they are just going to start rotating the offensive line one at a time for QB next week.

    In reality it's based on who's betting where. The ideal situation for Vegas is for there to be even betting on both sides - that way they make their 5%. So lines are made to entice people to bet evenly, or as close as possible. So while people's betting may change based on environmental factors and injuries, the line only moves with the people betting.

    Why do you think there are lines to begin with bud? Like bobman says. GAMBLERS! It's the sports books that set the lines. They just publish them in the paper. The opening lines are set Sunday night and from there they go up and down based on the amount of cash that's bet on one team or the other. The ultimate goal of the sports books is to set a line that will get equal cash bet on each side. Why you ask? Because you get charged what's called 'vigorish' of approx 10% to make your bet. If you lose they keep your money plus the vigorish which actually can be a lot more than 10%. For example, this morning Cincy +3 would have cost you $125 to win $100.
    So as a simple analysis, say you set a line of SD -10 over Oak at -110 odds. Ten people bet on SD so the sports book takes in 10 x 110= 1100. Ten people also take Oak at 10 X 110 =1100. So in total the sports book has taken in $2200. If SD covers they pay out $2100 and keep $100. Same thing if Oak covers. Either way they get $100. Now multiply those bets by thousands and you can see that they can make huge profits on just the vigorish with absolutely no risk. And believe me they are not in it for risk. They'll gladly take the 10% (sometimes more) and smile all the way to the bank. ;)

    This might turn very interesting tonight with only three weeks to go....

    Trey will go up to 101 whatever happens because this week will be dropped for him.

    So... if:

    New Orleans wins: FrankZ will lead with 102, then Trey with 101, and a triple tie at 100 (Spastic, jdhdiggs and me). Closest in line avelanchefan with 94

    Atlanta wins: then we have a quadruple tie at 101 (FrankZ, Trey, Spastic, me), jdhdiggs at 99, and closest avelanchefan with 95.

    Shoot, I'm lucky to be hanging in there, the last six weeks have been picks made before the season started.... Need to get back into this if I'm going to be catching Frank...

    Frank.....excellent job!! I had 2 weeks that really screwed me in the standings. One week I had 3 wins, the other week I had 4 wins. Woulda...coulda...shoulda. I thought overall everyone played very well. And to tell you the truth, I made these picks on Sunday evenings usually before the spread came out, so not to shabby IMO.


    BTW- Just glad to see a Bronco fan win it. :D
