These are so sweet that I had to install a wet nap dispensor in my console. Clearest, cleanest speakers on the market. Mmmmmm.....

The design behind the Ring Radiator tweeter is beyond cool...
But I'm kind of a sucker for hard metal domes...
The SR series looks SWEET, I am looking forwards to seeing some subs and stuff ya know? hehe- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Yeah, I cant wait for the subs to come out!!
Ive always been a silk tweeter type of guy. The accuracy of metal is cool but for heavy metal, silk is a lot easier on the ears.
These are the best tweeters Ive ever heard though. Even firing into a massive windshield, these are smooth as a babies butt!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Yeah, I mostly look for detail - but I find you can calm a metal dome down if you put some effort into it, although I imagine it is easier in a house than a car... lol
my system is on the bright side, and can be ear bleeding bright with the wrong recording material (rare) - but when you put something good on... woo... just melt!
Have you listening to the LSi series? Thats what that tweeter was based off of, that Vifa the LSi series uses... - as was the Midbass I imagine...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Oh yeah. I go to Tweeter at least once a month and listen to everything. Thats where I fell in love with the RTi12's!!
I guess its all the glass in a car (especially the endless glass in my truck) that makes metal tweet's not my favorite. In a house it would probably be ideal.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Awesome...
I have been to Tweeter one or two times, I can't stand their demo rooms so I don't go to often. However, they had the LSi15 in a room of its own, and I was fairly impressed. Atleast for running on a receiver...
It definetely had potential...
I need to check out the SR series.
Metal domes can be bright in any enviorment... lol... it just is a matter if you want to mess with them to get them to your liking...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

Has anybody actually read from front to back this white paper? I printed it out and left it sitting on my desk at work. I was gone to meetings for a short while and when I got back, there were 4 guys standing at my desk thumbing through the white paper that I printed out. Some were oooing and ahhhing at the specs and one was claiming that the system posted better numbers than his Infinity and NHT speakers in his home theater.
These are defintly impressive speakers and given the specs these have got to be one of the best sets of drivers I have ever seen available for a car. Even if you pay the MSRP of $750, you are getting a bargain because there are speaker systems out there that cost 3-4 times as much that don't have frequency response curves as flat as these do. The specs don't mean everything and installation has alot to do with it but if specs are a guage of anything, they do show how the physical properties of the speakers match other competitors. Looking at that aspect, it shows that favor is leaning towards the Polk Audio side in many possible comparisons.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
You're just jealous 'cause the voices don't talk to you! -
I have a feeling Polk is going to make their presence known in the high end market.
I love these things more and more everyday. Ive owned several different speakers and have listened exstensively to a lot of others ranging from Focal, MBQ, a/d/s and Diamond and I wouldnt take any of them over my SR's.
Im really hoping they come out with a matching series of sub's. Theyve targeted Quart and Focal and outdid them, I cant wait til they get JL Audio and Adire in their crosshairs!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

oh now that is beautiful ****.
i paged through that, and i have to say, that is by far, the best data sheet i've seen on a component speaker, overall, to date. drivers are flat throughout and even a bit past their crossover points, frequency range is SICK, well beyond what is audible to the ear, power handling is excellent, and the crossover design is TOP OF THE LINE. provision for bi-amping built in is an AWESOME addition, whether it's used or not, it's there, and that's what matters. the quality of the crossover construction is just plain sick.
you get what you pay for - 9 bills for that system is acceptable to me - i dont have 9 bills, but i'll never call them over priced.

The Polk MMC component crossovers are built for this also. -
But the MM crossover were not.
Most companies are going to biampable crossover now and Im glad. It seems to be catching on and Im glad. Ive been a big advocate of it for a couple years now.
Focal seems to be lagging behind tho, all their x-overs are still single inputs only, but whadya expect, theyre French!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Mine are breaking in nicely and are literally sounding better every day. One of my **** about them was the lack of midbass, well thats gone now. Its coming along nicely. My bass has been pulled up front quite a bit and drum rolls across the toms are sounding punchier and more solid than they EVER did with my beloved MM6's!
Another testimony on detail. During a brief drum fill on Fates Warning's CD "X", you could actually hear the snare rattling from the vibrations of the toms!! Unreal!

Man, now that these are pretty much broken in they are moving some serious air! My entire door is vibrating now on good bass hits. My MM6's, MMC690s and Infinity 6x9s never came close to this kind of output! Dont get me wrong, youll still need a sub but these things make a dedicated midbass pretty much obsolete!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Thought Id share some more impressions of my beloved SR's.
I have discovered these arent made for getting super loud. Dont get me wrong, these are plenty capable of cranking out some db's and are still the best sounding speakers on the market only they cant quite handle as much juice as the Momos (which would explain their 120 watt rating compared to the MM6 150 watts...duh)
I cranked up Pink Floyds "Hey You" which has some mucho punchy bass in it and at a pretty stout volume they bottomed out and pretty loud too. Scared me to death! I had them high passed at 70 Hz so I quickly bumped that up to 100 Hz and it seemed to work just fine.
However it had an interesting side effect. I was pissed cause now I had to bump my sub up to 100 Hz to compensate and thought it was going to be all boomy and sound like crap. It didnt. It actually sounds pretty good. I had to turn the sub level down a bit on my h/u to blend in with the front stage so I lost some of the punch but the extra 30 Hz is blending in quite nicely with my fronts and has really thickened up the SQ.
So far Ive only listened to one CD like this (Savatage - The Wake of Magellan) so I may change my mind after listening to some others but for now 100 Hz is working out just right.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

OK, I dont like it. Way too much bass. I had Neo listen to it and while we were I was gritting my teeth. Way too much boominess (not to mention that gawddamned 40 acre windshield **** up the tweets).
Also, at the Polkfest, we got to listen to some outstanding speakers including the SR's properly mounted and I heard how theyre really supposed to sound.
So when I got home I re-set all my gains. Basically my Crossfire amps is WAY too much power for these. In order to keep them from bottoming out at loud volumes my mid's gain is not much higher than zero with the tweets virtually at zero. I may need to invest in a smaller amp.
I also high passed them at about 60 Hz and dropped my sub down to 60. It is no longer boomy and sounds about right. I also have no bottoming out on any tracks at high volume (28 out of 35) so thats set.
Neo, youre going to have to drive down to Chattanooga so you can listen to it again! Itll be better this time!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
