Yamaha has one, too. Must be the fashionable thing to do now. Polk seems to be getting trendier every day. I guess that's good for business.

I was surprised by how well the yamaha one works... it's no substitute for my lsi f/x's, but it's a step in the right direction for all the Bose fans.

I think it's great, Polk needs to get their share out of this market seqment. Why shouldn't they?

I'm with Russ on this one - if that's the direction the mass market is headed in, then Polk should definitely get in on that action, and they'll most likely do a much better job of pulling this off than someone like Yamaha...

And if someone is going to buy something along these lines, they should at least have the option of buying a superior product from a company like Polk

Not to mention, penetration in this type of market will inadvertantly bring more people around to Polk and maybe around to their other products like the 'real speakers' we all have.

I personally know several people that have bought the Polk Satellite systems, and then come around to buying 'real speakers' and end up owning an all LSi setup running on high end gear. Had those people not encountered Polk with their purchase of the satellite system, they'd likely still be running a Bose system...

Now that I think about it, I'm all for this - get yourself into other markets, bring some name recognition, get people on board with your products, and maybe even get a few more forum members - and you've got that much larger of an audience to sell your higher-end stuff to.

Think about it, what if Bose all the sudden started making high-end full size speakers and offered them at a decent price and created a smart marketing program (we know they're good at that)- with their customer base, they'd bring alot of people over in to the world of high-end audio.

The more people we have in higher-end audio, the greater the chance things like SACD have to survive and flourish.

Different strokes for different folks. If it gets Polk more sales, go for it. As I have said before, life is built on change. SDA's went the way of the dinasaur because the buying public didn't want such big speakers in their tiny livingrooms. Polk changed with the times, and has continued to flourish!

Cant' do that if you're out of business because you refused to change with the times.

That white RTi4 looks pretty cool.

Im all for Polk coming out with stuff like this. Why do they only have to make $4000 speakers? Whats wrong with having entry level gear as long as you dont compromise the quality of youre higher end offerings and Polk does not? Not everybody wants or cares for high end speakers. Most people want convenience.

This will introduce Polk Audio to a larger segment of the consumer market which means more money for Polk Audio which means Polk Audio having more money to put into R & D and putting that into their high end speakers which is better for everybody!

As an aside, specifically to MacLeod - I, like a few others, would love to see Polk go back to their roots, and focus on a real stereo line. Its been a good 10-15 years, and it would be nice to see an effort made in an area that not only put them on the map, but is still popular today. No, it doesnt have to be this balls-to-the-wall speaker line, or even 'sda', just something that shows effort that could appeal to those who enjoy their music.

Maybe you missed the LSi series. From Press release May 10, 2001:

    LSi Series High-End Speakers
Advanced technology drivers featured in new step-up line

New York, NY--Today Polk Audio announced a new series of high performance speakers designed to take advantage of today’s high definition audio media such as DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD. The LSi Series speakers feature advanced transducers, highly-styled enclosures, and proprietary Polk technologies, to produce the highest level of performance, fit, finish and reliability in Polk’s history.

The reason they released it is because there was a fiscal advantage to developing this due to people's want/need for this type of product.

Sid, you need to realize that change is good, and that Polk is BETTER THAN DT......

    The fact is...

I have no problems with Polk introducing a 5.1 in 1 speaker.

I have problems with Polk using SDA technology in a 5.1 in 1 speaker.

As for Polk being better than Def Tech? Your opinion. (very nice ending BTW ;))

If using SDA tech in this type of speaker helps it sound better, then I would be pissed if Polk did NOT choose to go that route.

I expect Polk, when making a product, to do all within reasonable means to make that product as good as possible. If this means resurrecting an older idea like SDA, then so be it. And SDA is their tech, so they can do whatever with it they wish.

Having said all that, I have no idea about the tech behind this speaker and how SDA has been incorporated, but I'm still good with it...

I'm an old foggie I guess but I ain't giving up my 10's and 7's and Rta11T's for something that looks pretty under the TV. I can see where there is a market for the bar as far as ease of setup, no wires running all over the place. It is typical of todays consumer mentality. Want it now and with no hassles.

It isn't an SDA, but utilizes the same theory. It will be at Polkfest and is one of the showcase demo's for you folks coming to the Hive.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I already know most of the specs on it - just want to see them on the official page in waiting :)

I'm sure it sounds great... I was just hoping the SDA technology would be put to different forms of usage - thats all. Slightly dissapointed.

I believe the WAF factor would go up if you made more attempts to actively include your wives into the process. But it has to be done in plain, simple english that she can understand. If you start talking to her in techno babble you will lose her. :D
