How depraved is your audio habit?

I was just thinking about it as I'm emailing a buddy about audio. My sickness is, indeed, a sickness. This sums up how bad I have it:
No ****, we had a murder/suicide a couple years ago in the neighborhood. Wife capped the husband and then she capped herself. Next day, I'm looking in the windows of the house to see if they had any hifi gear that they wouldn't be using any more.
Does it get any worse??

I've actually given some thought on how that could be accomplished during Polkfest.

It isn't doing the boosting, it is the getting away with it that should be a concern. In this, I am uniquely qualified. Need a partner? So what if those speakers are as big as a Subaru and cost twice as much? You'll never have to trade these babies in and when you die, they can bury you in them.
And, if you can't afford them, F***ing FINANCE them! -

Are you sure? I used to work on alarm systems for nuclear weapons when I was in the military. Since then I have gotten an EE degree and an MBA. You might actually get away with it and will have an open invite to come to my house to listen. So what if those speakers are as big as a Subaru and cost twice as much? I sometimes find myself wanting items out of my league. Sometimes I mindlessly order them. To do this I play mind games with myself to qualify the purchase beforehand. After I find I cannot qualify the purchase is when it happens. It is usually an insane act when I hit the "Buy Now" button. It's almost like pulling the trigger of a gun.

It's out of control....especially when I went a bought 2 receivers from harmanaudio recently. The wife was not pleased. But I fixed it, my bro took the 230 and my 235 just arrived today at the house (probably better off that UPS delivered it 30 min after I left for work or else I would have been "sick" today).
I'm always looking for a deal, always, even after I buy something new...Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

Just look at how much stuff I've bought off the FM, just in the last month alone. If you add all the speakers I've picked up here, from individuals, and from stores to that and the rest of the gear I've picked up on the FM, it gets pretty obvious that I've got the bug. Oh well, it could be a much worse vice, like a nasty heroin addiction or gambling problem, that leave you with nothing to show for the outlay."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

I have friends that break my balls about all my audio stuff. "look at all the money you spend", etc. The thing is, just like you said, I have something to show for it, hence why my sickness is so apparent. its in plain sight. If I had a coke or gambling habit, i'd be spending more money, and not have evidence laying around for people to comment about!
so needless to say, despite all of that, i'll take my sickness over the others any day.Living Room 2 Channel -

I went to Home Depot today to find brass colored screws for my amp to replace the black ones. I want my amp to look nicer as I stare at it while listening to music.
Didn't find the screws (damn the metric system!). Now I gotta find a hobby store a get a tiny bottle of metallic gold paint and a super fine paint brush so I can paint the screwheads. Gotta make sure the paint gets into all of the grooves.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I was up until 2 a.m. polishing my power tubes and rearranging the cables so they didn't touch one another. Afterwards, I stared at my amp for 30 minutes to see if it looked any different than before.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

You can fix that ding. They are most likely a wood veneer. If you take a damp cloth, barely moist and an iron set on a low setting and heat the ding, you can usually get it to pop back out as long as the wood fibers are not broken. All you have to do is lay the speaker so the ding is flat, take the damp cloth (not dripping at all) and lay it flat over the ding and heat the ding through the cloth. Check it frequently so that you don't over heat it. If all teh moisture comes out of teh cloth where you are heating, switch to another section of the cloth that is still damp or re-wet the cloth. So if there isn't any gnarled edges to the ding, you may be able to pull it out. It takes some patience and care and you have be sure not to burn the finish (hence the reason for the damp cloth/towel) but it is possible. I just did it on a pair of KLH Model 17's I picked up.
If the ding has a hollow space behind it, you can use a syringe from the drug store filled with wood glue. Stick the syringe into the veneer so that the needle pokes through and squeeze the wood glue in. Not only with it keep the veneer spot from moving and getting damaged but it will fill that void too so that it doesn't become a problem again.
As far as the scratch goes, gotta find out what kind of finish is on it. Some times, superficial scratches in acrylic and polyurethane finishes can be repaired with a small amount of elbow grease and plastic polish for car lenses from the auto parts store. Any other finish and it will take some doing to get that scratch removed. I'd hate to say it but, if it isn't polyurethaned or something similar, cleaning with Murphy's Oil Soap or a wax based furniture polish like Formby's can help hide that scratch. I don't recommend it for regular care but sometimes it can help when the cost of refinishing or repairing the piece is prohibitive and one wants it to look fairly nice.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

It isn't a horde move when the purchase goes into the system to improve the performance, but I'm in deep **** at the moment.
I guess that 1 receiver, 2 stereo amps, and 2 integrateds sitting in my 2 channel room qualifies my sickness as alive and well. I can only use 1 at a time.
I am actually extremely lucky as my wife just laughs when more stuff arrives, as she still thinks it is "cute" that I have an audio hobby and "friends" on the computer. When that wears off, I hope to be nipple deep in stuff that is simply too rare or valuable to sell to just anyone. Karma baby!!! Couldn't have happened to a better putz than you. Maybe you'll think twice before you put your shoe to someone else's speaker again.
John, STFU and sit down. That really only works well if there is no finish on the wood. The moisture (water) has to get into the wood and with a thick coat of finish like the Totem's have the water isn't going to get to the wood. The reason it worked on those KLH's is the finish is oiled, water has little problem getting through it. Also, the scratches in acrylic and polyurethane finishes are some of the hardest to repair. Lacquer, shellac and oiled are the easiest. The finish on the Totem's is most likely a catalyzed lacquer, another **** to fix.Political Correctness'.........defined
