Well guys (and girls???), I'm in full restoration mode on my 93 LX 5.0 Mustang which pretty much means no $$$$ for audio stuff. It has 110,000 miles on it and needs it!

I gave it to my friend, the super mechanic, for a few days about 2 months ago to do some badly needed maintenance. Ya know, belts, hoses, tires, oil, cooling system, etc.

Now, I'm going nuts on this thing!!! Next up is another round of maintenance which includes the following:

KYB performance shocks and struts
Eibach Pro Kit springs (lowers it 1" in rear and 1 1/2" in front)
Ford Racing strut tower brace
new clutch
new fuel injectors
replacing of lower intake seal and rear main engine seal (oil leaks)

After that is taken care of, it goes in for a full PPG paint job and clear coat with new window moldings. I'm also replacing the old stock rims for some sweet Y2K Motorsport R rims to go with the already purchased Dunlop sport 5000 tires.

I'll be posting some before, during and after pics in the near future on "Project Mustang". Stay tuned....this summer is going to be REALLY fun. Who knows...perhaps a full Polk Audio system could lie down the near road for the mighty mustang. Yeah...I would bet on it!

John

    "Hot rod car maniac"

I might fit that description..... I'm more in the bowtie camp, but open-minded.

The LX 5.0 is the Mustang I'd have, if I were going to have a Mustang. I'd like to see some pictures, when you get time.

I've been a motor head for a long time. Are you going to check out the World Ford Challenge in St.Louis in the future? I don't have my Mustang anymore but man was it fun. Mustangword.com is a good site to check out.

When the urge hits me I pull out the 91 1LE Camaro and have tons of fun. So far it has 21,000 miles and over $25,000 in race goodies. I got a really good deal on it because the owners wife said either that car goes or I do and wanted it gone that day no matter what. Go figure. I have a hard time paying for the tires, gas and insurance so the mileage is going to stay low for awhile but it sure is fun to drive those few times a year though! The quarter mile time is 12.9 with street tires or 12.3 with slicks.

John - Be sure and get a good set of caster/camber adjustment plates since you are lowering the car, stiffening the suspension and getting wider rims. Plus the 90-93 is really hard to keep lined up after that many miles. It will give you more adustments and will help you make the most out of your upgrades. Maximum Motorsports make a really nice set for about $180. A couple of other easy and cheap upgrades would be a K&N filtercharger and a set of underdrive pulleys. (you may have already done these). Good luck. Keep us informed of the progress and post pictures.

With an LX, you have a 300-400 Lb advantage over the same year GT model....(that's like loosing Troy as a passenger)

Definately hit the intake and exhaust (headers are probably the best bang-for-buck bolt on you can get), and then shoot for heads.....

If you stay with stock rims for a while, 235/60 up front and 255/60 out back, Comp t/a's give that car a real mean stance. (thats as large as you can go, on stock rims, with up to a 2/3 drop)

    Pics man, pics and enjoy!

    Cheers,
    Russ

i enjoy driving the hell out my vehicles, i have my jetta GL set up pretty nice. lowered with nuespeed sport suspension lowering springs and the handling's tightened up with bilstein struts. team loco 16" rims wrapped in yokahama rubber. also sporting the 'euro' grille. she's getting old though, and i don't have the money to put into the engine performance that i'd like to. i am however auto-crossing the jetta GLX VR6 this summer. it is totally stock right now, and (unfortunately) i think it's going to stay that way, just because 'stock' will be the only level i will be able to compete in. i can't afford to keep up with the upgrades that go into the prepared classes...

john, good luck with you project car, and definitely post some pics. as it progresses..

I already have Flowmaster mufflers, K&N filter, Pro 5.0 shorty shifter, Saleen spoiler and aftermarket sunroof in place from several years back.

Shack, I'm checking into the Camber/Caster kit. I found them in a magazine for around the mid 160's. There's a few other items I'm currently debating on getting now or waiting until later. I really want the paint and clearcoat!

    Russ...the Troy comment...HILARIOUS!!!

My "Project Mustang" project is very similar to everyone's audio systems. ENDLESS!!! I'll keep tweaking and adding parts and tweaking and adding parts and so on....

Ron-P, It'll be close to summer when the final pics come out. Too warm for sweats. Tell ya what I've been thinking...I'm going to get one of the girls at the club to pose with my car for some pics. You'll like that!!! See, I'm thinking of you guys! :D

John along with the camber/caster plates you might want to get the strut tower brace and lower ‘A’ arm brace. They help keep everything tight and a big improvement on handeling. Don't forget the sub-frame conectors or you will be tweaking you body the wrong way. I put ‘Trick Flow Twsted Wedge’ heads on mine they were rated the best at the time for flow rate. The best mod I made for the price was rear gears, 4.10s are great. The bigger throttle was pretty good too.
I forget what kind of traction (bars) I used, anything but four link devices are allowed in the regular modified mustangs in the ‘Mustang Shoot Out’ races.

Bob Lutz, Head honcho, The boss, The main man from GM US was in Australia recently and confirmed what were my thoughts a while ago that the US will start getting the new GM/HSV Two Door coupe and ute in 2003. It will replace the Pontiac GTO Although I dont know what that is but check out www.hsv.com.au for the pictures of these cars. They run the same motor as the Corvette with the top model having the Callaway motor. I drive the 4 dr version and man do these cars fly. I cant wait for you folks to get these cars as they go hard, stop hard and turn sharp. Kind Regards Fabian PS the only mod they need is Polk Audio in the sound department

John-you may want to consider 3.73 gears for a five speed. It will be quick as heck but still get good gas millage in 5 gear. When I had my Mustang and was in a club down here. A lot of members 3.55sfor new gears but switched from the 3.55s to the 3.73s because the change was not very noticable. It looks like it will be pretty awsome when finshed. Ya going to do NOS or turbo/super charger?

    Mustang's.
alot of my friend's own them.three of them run in the 11's and one guy's car hit 9.6's, his car is totally tricked out. It's a green lx convertable.White top and tons of cash in it.He uses a vortec super charger and Nitro.I think it's a 60 horse shot to cool the supercharger. He totally rebuilt the stock engine and uses eldelbrok heard's.
I used to own a Firebird that ran 13.8's at 101mph, then I got rid of that and picked up a Buick turbo T 1987.It ran 13.6 at 102mph on stock tires. It's best time was 11.66@117mph.I did alot of work to it.I blew the orginal engine, and then bought another 1987 Turbo T in black, that car was hit in the right rear. But the engine was young with only 60,000 miles on it, and an older man owned it, it was all stock.
I pulled the engine and sold the rest of the car.I worked on it for a month.I left the engine stock and did all bolt on's.
A t-49 turbo, Dutweller intercooler,#49 injector's, custom chip,3 inch down pipe ,hooker exhaust, adjustable fuel regular, adjustable boost value.Dump pipe,Ported and polished intake(STOCK) NEW 52mm throttle/plentium.K&M air filter's, a ram air system for a close in K&M.fiberglass hood.Transmission was custom with a Dutweller shift kit and torque converter,2800 stall. This car was a monster on the street and a inconsistant runner at the track.I made ton's of runs but I couldn't beat my best time of 11.66.The car kept going 11.8,11.9,12.00,11.7, but I onlt ran 11.66. once.It was fun then.
I sold the car a year ago.....family....house building.....and now I miss her.One day I will buy another, this time I think I will get a Grand National, as I like the Black and Black interor.Mine was grey with grey interior.
