Does anyone remember the Yamaha DSP-A1 processor/integrated amp?
Why doesn't electronics manufacturers like Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Onkyo, HK, etc. make their AVRs into these multi channel integrateds/processors like that instead by leaving out the crappy tuner sections they throw in with them anyway? This could only help the performance.

I have a DSP-A1. I bought it about 6 years ago and still use it daily. I bought a Denon 3805 last summer because of the newer features and I guess because of all the hype about it but to be honest I prefer the sound and performance of the DSP-A1 more. I am using the 3805 in my main system to take advantage of the video switching, PL2, etc.
I just took a job in Raleigh, I start tomorrow, and will be moving there as soon as my house sells and will likely have to go to 1 sound system. When I do move I will have to sell either the DSP-A1 or the 3805. I am leaning towards letting the 3805 go. The DSP-A1 has been a great performer and I don't really need all the features of the 3805. -
The DSP A1 was my personal favorite back in the day. Not built in tuner, great sound and tons of power.
This is when Yamaha was great. What the hell happened???Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
My cousin has a DSP-A1 driving some JBL Studio series speakers, and I don't care too much for Yamaha personally, I like Denon much better between the two, but I must admit the Yamaha/JBL combination seems to have a terrific synergy and sounds great together.
He even has the 2 front effects speakers hooked up. -
Marker I got your PM. I'll let you know which way I go. How familiar are you with the Raleigh/Cary/Apex area as that is where I am going to focus my search? I am going to commute from Winston Salem until the house sells so hopefully it won't take more than a couple of months.
I originally had LS-70's matched with the DSP-A1 and it sounded real good but I had the urge to change speakers and went with Boston VR-M60's all around with a SVS 20-39PC that seems to me to be a perfect match. -
Simm, another PM sent.
Regarding the Bostons, I have a neighbor a few houses down with Boston VR3 mains with the matching center and surrounds with a Denon AVR-3803. I don't know if they are they the same line as yours or not since I don't really know too much about Boston Acoustics, but I also like them a lot as they sound great.
He did have VR1 mains, but very recently, like in the last week or so traded up to the VR3. -
Marker I responded to you PM. The VR-M60's are a bookshelf speaker with 6.5" woofer and 1" tweeter. The VR-M line was and I assume still is the top of Boston's line. Very nice sounding speakers imo.
