New dvd player or Xbox?

I have heard that the hardware and components in the Xbox are very good for dvd playback but I was wanting to get a standalone player for use on a home theater projector. I would like to use a dvi cable to get the best picture which I dont think I can do on an Xbox.
Also Im going to need to run a dvi cable about 30 feet. Will I loose any signal at this length?
Anyone know more about dvd playback from an Xbox?

I know Cobalt Cable's DVI will extend to 33 ft (10m) with no signal loss. And yes, you want a new player. X-box's and PS2's look/sound like dog **** as a dvd player.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.
Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener. -
PS2 and XBox have horrid DVD playback...
I hope the 360 is leaps and bounds above it as I want to get rid of my DVDP...haha
Get a seperate DVDP.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
It is highly recommended to "NOT" use the DVD playback capabilities of the Xbox and PS2. Something about wearing out the lasers and the horrid PQ and SQ. Just get yourself a decent stand alone and be done with it."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

If Money is tight, buy the Xbox and use it as a DVD player as well. I can't see why anyone wouldn't have an Xbox.
Unless you have a killer HDTV then buying a seperate DVD right now isn't what I would do.
Down the road allday everydayDan

I'd take a $50 JVC dvd player over an X-box's playback.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

video's okay, sound leaves way too much to be desired...It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

Again, I've was told this by several different people that are in the video game business. You'll be taking a chance of harming the lasers. I'll get with one of them to find out exactly what they were implying, if you'd like. But like Toxis wrote, just get a decent name brand stand alone, they are cheap and you'll most likely get progressive scan. I know that Toshiba has one for around $80 that upconverts to near HD quality and comes with the hdmi cable, but I'm sure the cable is just enough to get by with."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,
