    christian bashing

You know -- I don't think this is the place nor time to get into it, but -- as a Jew I have always found the concept of "christian bashing" sort of, I don't know, unreal. I mean, everyone who's not a Jew is basically a christian. Are they all bashing each other?

Who's christian bashing? I mean, aside from muslim extremists, who are bashing everyone. Are Jews christian bashing? Are hindus christian bashing? Are catholics bashing christians? (See, now it gets confusing.)

I don't know. Just a weird phrase. Always confuses me.

What happens I think is that non-believers, people for whom religion is no solace (and I count myself among them), find it easier to discuss a film like Gibson's PASSION in terms of silly fairy tale Hallmark Xmas Special relativity, rather than discuss it as a work of film art. (I personally haven't seen it, so I usually refrain from discussing it at all.) That could result in something that could be considered "christian bashing," maybe: Look how all these suckers flocked to this movie! etc.

I just wish, again my central point, that Mel would make the kind of movies that make you go, "Wow, that was FUN!" again. Like MAD MAX or ROAD WARRIOR or even the nifty little PAYBACK.

What was that summer flick he made about the aliens invading. Low budget but still a decent film.

It certainly was not a Hallmark picture (for obvious reasons) and it was film art so I guess it would be very difficult to discuss it in those terms. A fairy tale, as much as any religious story.

I dont consider anything anyone has said in this thread bashing at all. When I use that term I mean the way so many people these days go off anytime someone says anything about/with "Christian Values". If you dare say you believe anything "Christian", especially in the media, you're immediately labled "right", "intolerant", "stupid" and so on. Personally, I dont care WHAT people believe, it's not my business. But I think Mel Gibson can and should make any film about any subject he wants, just like EVERY other film maker does. If you like what he does, spend your money, if not, dont.
