    Fellowship of the ring.

For some reason I prefer the first installment of trilogies: Fellowship, A New Hope, The Matrix. I guess the introduction to the plot and character development appeal to me.

I think I like Fellowship better as well. I liked them all but the last two were just darker and more depressing, and yes I know that is they way they were supposed to be. I liked the character development and the more colorful scenery we saw in "Fellowship".

I did love the battle scenes in Return of the King which was my second favorite.

    lol- "Battles are awesome"

    Airplay you're a damn warmonger aren't ya? ;)

seriously though i actually liked the Battle for Helms Deep in Two Towers better than the battle at Pelanor Fields. Can't explain why.

But I do have a question- Why did the bad guys look different in ROTK than in Two Towers? IMO the Urukai (??) looked way cooler in Two Towers than in ROTK. I never got why they changed looks- somebody who knows what the hell they're talking about explain this one to me (like i'm a 6 year old =)

In ROTK we saw orcs/goblins. The Uruk-hai were considered all but wiped out after Helms Deep.

I liked the action scenes in ROTK so Ill give that my vote.

However I began to FREAKING HATE those stupid **** hobits!!

It was the same **** everytime they cut to them:

    -Great fight scene!
-Frodo with his eyes rolled back in his head and Sam crying.
    -Awesome fight scene!
-Sam crying and Frodo's eyes are rolled back in his head.
    -Kick **** fight scene!
-Sam and Frodo crying....then Frodo's eyes rolling back in his head.

    Speaking of which..

I kept waiting for those 2 little **** to start making out with each other.

ok thanks Jet2001. I was always wondering about that.

I don't know about you but the Urukai were alot scarier. English may not have been a priority but they were still cool looking.

If they made a movie of "The Hobbit", that would probably be better than the Lord of the Rings trilogy and more appealing to more people because the story line is much tighter and easier to follow. The Lord of the Rings was very difficult to make into a full set of coherent movies, one of the reasons it took 50 years or so to get them on the screen.

But, I'd say the best of the trilogy was "The Fellowship of the Ring" because more seemed to happen with more of the story revolving around individual character. Also, the first movie introduced a lot of SVS users to the power of their subwoofers with the first scene where Sauron was destroyed, and the thump when **** Baggins dropped the ring. "The Two Towers" was one long run, run, run, battle, rescue. "The Return of the King" had the best battle scene by far with the cavalry charge. It's main flaw was being way too drawn out at the end.

With the sucess of the LOTR trilogy, I am sure we will be seeing "The Hobbit" very soon. I had thought that Peter Jackson had committed to making it after he finished King Kong, but I see is working on another movie now, so maybe not.

I liked FoTR the best because it followed the book not only the closest of the 3, but as close as any movie to putting on screen to what I imagined when I read the book. The second one was just distracting for the same reason. The 3rd was the best from an action perspective, but for me, I liked the first overall.

    LOTR was a good series...

One time around. Its replay value is zilch. (who wants to watch a 12 hour movie?)

The only good part of the entire move ARE the battle scenes. If they would of cut out the rest, I would of been fine with it.

ok i take my opinion back. I just watched ROTK and it's just as good as Two Towers.

But yeah the re-play value on the movies does dwindle ALOT after the 1st viewing.

Not like New Hope, Empire & Jedi. :D

I grew up playing Dungeons and Dragons and reading the books which was based pretty much solely on these novels so Ill always have an affinity for them.

I love the idea of finally seeing all those scenarios I used to dream up and play finally come to life on the big screen.

Tolkein's son won't sell the rights of 'The Hobit' to New Line Cinima. It'll take time, but I'm sure he'll sell out soon enough. Heck the LOTR trilogy made over $1 billion.

You are right about them not being as good viewed miltiple times, as the Star Wars trilogy was....I thing viewing time has a lot to do with it. It's only one hour longer, but 3 hours is a long time to commit.

Wow, some of you guys disappoint me to the 10th degree. Replay value is not good? Than if this doesn't have replay value, nothing will/does. Period. I can watch these a 100 times and still love it.

For me, I liked ROTK. Great balance of everything. FotR was more storyline, TT was more action and ROTK was about 50/50. Don't get me wrong, I love them all and love watching them. They sure give my Sunfire a test... I love the elephant scene!!! Thank you DTS-ES!

For me, I gotta say Fellowship. It was slower, had better character development, and none of the cutting back and forth that effed up the pace in the next 2. Another thing I didn't like about TTT and ROTK was that they felt like sequels. The fight in Theoden's castle with the guards, with Legolas backhanding one, I couldn't help but roll my eyes. How many times has that been done in a movie? I think the only time it was cool was in The Lion King. The same thing in ROTK, when Gandalf handed Denathor's **** to him with his cane. It's funny, yes, but it almost ruins the seriousness of the scene. Don't get me wrong, though. I loved all of the movies. There were just a few things that bothered me in TTT and ROTK. The pace was off, too many comical moments that aren't needed, and the overall feeling that they were rushed. I agree with Toxis about the replay value these movies have, though. I've watched the whole trilogy close to a dozen times(extended versions), and am constantly rewatching my favorite demo scenes(there are quite a few). These movies never get old.

Fellowship, only because of the story and character build-up. I thought they were all excellent movies, and so did the Academy of Motion Pictures it seems. Were they perfect, of course not, putting Tolkien's stories on film would have to be one of the most difficult things ever done in Hollywood. Jackson did a fantastic job of interpreting the books and adapting them to film.

    <SUPER GEEK MODE>

The movies, while 3 seperate works, are really a single entity not a trilogy. The books were only split up because of concerns of teh publisher. Lord of the Rings is one, complete work. I view the movies that way too because it is an entire story. To me, none is better than the other because they are one in the same.
