...mine got stolen today, i think while i was at work so between 2:30p and 1am. Mine was a Raleigh M60. I forgot how much it was because I bought it like 3-4 years ago. I think it was like 370 or so. My girlfriends, which also got stolen, was a trek 6000 which we picked up at an auction for like $20. Its also a good $300+ bike. Words dont describe what I feel right now.

Ive been leaving them at my g/f's apartment because we would go riding a few nights a week. They were both locked and now theyre gone. joy

bastages..... I too know that sunken low feeling when something of yours has been taken. It doesn't even have to be about the money it costs to replace what was taken (if you can even replace it with money) but just the principle. Karma. They will get what they deserve and so will you and your g/f. (eg. good for you bad for the **** that jacked your bikes)

It should.......minus whatever the deductible is.

Most people have a $500-1000 Deductible, so it wouldn't even be worth filing that on......unless you had it chained up with a $2000 chain.....;)

ha, i wish i could look on the bright side and go out and shop for a newer, better, stronger than ever bike. But that just doesnt going to look like its going to happen.

My next bike will probaby be a raleigh m20 that i can find for $40 at a pawn shop.

I make about $600 a month which leaves me about 200 bucks after living expenses. Subtract food and occasional eating out/movie, i have about $150 a month to do what I want with. And right now thats getting saved for audio. I have a goal of $2500 worth of audio in a truck i dont have yet by march. lol.

If you can survive on $50 worth of food a month, you must weight about a buck-ten.

You do realize that it looks incredibly lopsided to say that you want to spend $2500 on a car audio system when you are trying to live in $600 a month, right?

People who steal are low lifes. I've had a mountain bike taken. Never got it back, and I still miss it. (it was my first Mt Bike, a KHS, and had the longest wheelbase in the Continental US among MT Bikes. It was so stable you could play cards on the handlebars....)

The only satisfaction regarding thieves is the Budhist belief in Karma. They get what is coming.

well i make a little more than 600 and have a little more than $200 left over.
I also donate plasma which is an extra 150 a month:cool:
plus im getting a $2 raise at the end of the month so thats an extra $200.

My parents help me out with food and college(minus books--which is when i found the wonders of amazon.com. $140 worth of books for $52...)

and btw, its not for a car audio system. its merely for amps, an alternator and sound deadening...

I had one of my first mountain bikes stolen when I was visiting my relatives in Philadelphia. Kicker was, it was the night before I was due to leave. I left it outside instead of locking it in their basement as I had been doing, and that's what it got me. didn't get me upset too much, though... it was jus a $50-$100 Huffy walmart bike... My $400 bike stays under close watch at all times when I have it out of the house....

i went around shopping today for bikes even though i dont have the money right now. i found out today that disc brakes suck. they dont have near the grip that the V-brakes do. The only advantage is that when its wet theyre supposed to work better, but even then im not too sure.

anyways, i found the exact same bike i had, the raleigh m60 for $499, but i just dont have the money right now. i asked them if they had any kind of payment plan because if so id get it right then but they didnt. i looked at fuji, schwin(sp?), trek(which also seemed pretty good), giant, and specialized but it seems like the raleigh was the better of all of them.

but i also found out raleigh has ended their m XX line this year. but anyway, it doesnt look like ill be getting a nice book for a long long time...fuggin thieves, if i ever find it im going to kill em

I dunno what Disc brake setup you had, but those things will flip you right over the handlebars if you're not careful with them. They're hands down more effective at stopping than the V-brakes....the question is do you want to try pulling an endo because you had to stop suddenly? (that, and they're way overpriced IMO)

I find for things like downhill disc brakes are the best but for street riding and hopping around and stuff v-brakes are better. With discs you don't have worry about straight rims but then you have rotors to break on things.

Raleigh will always give you the best value. You wont find the same level of components on anything for that price.

Fuji is a very nice bike and pretty rare so thats a plus too.

Trek are like ****......everybodys got one!

    Specialized are becoming like Trek.

Giant is a very solid bike with good level components at their price points. I still partial to the Raleigh for the component offerings. Their geometry has a bad reputation but I dont notice anything and Id wager youd have to be a very experienced rider to notice a difference.

And as far as spending $2500 on an audio system....I say youve got your priorities just right!

And Cody, if you find those guys, see if Joel will let you borrow his Maglite! Its already got bloodstains on it so nobody will notice! :D Where the hell has he been anyway?

i tested out a $1200 giant with disc brakes and it didnt stop as well as my $450 raleigh with v-brakes. i tested out all the above mentioned bikes with disc brakes, none compared.

as far as joel and his maglite, ill just take my new set of 24" bolt cutters and go to town. actually, ill probably follow em home and see if i can find any more bikes and steal every single one and not have to worry about assault charges

    Disc brakes rule.

They take a little time to seat to the disc so maybe thats why they didnt perform that well. Try a bike with a few miles on it and Ill guarantee youll notice a big difference.

This is defintely an option I recommend going with.

My friend had his bike taken and a few days later he saw the guy on his bike but it had been spraypainted a different colour. Sadly there was nothing he could do to get his bike back except pay the $500 deductable and get a new bike.

My old bike (a cheapy mongoose "mountain" bike) was stolen out of my apartment buildings "secured" bike storage room in the basement. Some lowlife cut the cable that secured it to the rack and took off with it. I'm not storing my new Cannondale F400 anywhere but in my apartment. There is an addendum to my lease that states that no bikes are allowed to be stored inside, but if they try to challenge me on it, I'll just bring up the inadequacy of their "secure" bike room. What really sucks is that in my old apartment in the suburbs that wasn't nearly as nice (apt. or neighborhood) I had zero problems with the same bike secured to a pipe with the same lock in an unsecured basement!
