RMDS-1 Digital Input Problem (TOSLINK)

I have had an RMDS-1 since I purchased it new in 2001 (I think). I've had no problems with it until recently. The receiver/preamp unit now displays "No Signal" when I select the DSS DIG IN channel. I have verified that the TOSLINK cable and the digital source are working OK.

Are there any end-user troubleshooting steps I can take? Perhaps a factory-reset procedure?

If I have to have it repaired, is there a Polk Authorized repair shop in Nashville, TN?

Thanks!

Scott

    Hello Scott,
I'm sorry you're having difficulty with the RMDS1. Keep in mind the processor is able to decode a Dolby 5.1 surround source. If this is coming from your satellite receiver make sure it is a Dolby 5.1 encoded signal that it is sending. A way to check out the RMDS1 would be to feed your DVD player's Dolby 5.1 to this input. This would determine if the processor or the signal is the cause.

    Kevin-

    Thanks for the speedy reply.

In the past I have had several sources connected to the optical input of the RMDS-1 including a DirecTV Satellite box, a Sony PS-2 and a PROSCAN Television. (The COAX input on the RMDS-1 is working just fine by the way.)

The optical input of the RMDS-1 is no longer picking up any signal at all... no Dolby Pro Logic, Stereo or 5.1. It used to auto-sense the signal and display and process it accordingly. Now the display only reads "No Data" and there is no sound.

I have tested the cable and sources with another A/V receiver and they are working fine, so I'm fairly certain the problem is with the receiver.

I did try hooking up my DVD player's optical Digital output to the RMDS-1 at your suggestion, but the problem persists. I did verify that the output on the DVD player (as well as all the other sources) is enabled.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello,
In that case you would send the processor to Polk Audio, 2550 Britannia Blvd., Suite A, San Diego, CA. 92154. Please include a short note explaining the problem area and give us your name, address and daytime telephone number.
    Regards, Ken
