My surround sound speaker use up approximately 25 feet of cable each. Is 14 gauge nessicary or will 16 gauge do the job. If 14 is nessicary how much of difference will it make.

Personally, I'd use the 14 GA.

Ph, it'd be to your advantage to study this explanation by a well-respected veteran audio professional which covers some of the hogwash we read about speaker wires and includes a table of suggested gauges. Standard 16ga lampcord should be fine for your use.

In other words, don't listen to anyone here, because we are uneducated and unrespected.

Keep in mind, while the link is most definetly filled with knowledge and data, it's still an opinion.

John you simply make me giggle, nice to see you again.

Why don't you email Roger Russell the "White Papers" from Bruce Brisson at MIT? I would love to hear an analysis from a well-respected veteran audio professional, about another well-respected veteran audio professional.

I know you won't comment, oh well, but you should put your money where your mouth is someday.... and not just wag the dog.

wire like any component in the system is just as Important and anything else. Wire needs to be carefully picked.

The size and quallity of the rears needs to be adressed before a guage of wire is selected. Are the rears bi wireable or not??

If you simply don't care about the quality of sound you going to get, then 16 or 14 of who cares wire will do. If you do care then you have to go further then that to achive a closer sonic perfection.

    Sorry, I jumped the tracks.

The gauge is fine for the application, as he's not trying to change the world. I would go 14 gauge due to the cost being nominal at this point.

Phlinnie - Good luck with your wiring.

A 50 foot spool of Soundking 16 AWG wire is $16.95 from PartsExpress. A 50 foot spool of Soundking 12 AWG wire is $22.95. I'd go with the 12 AWG for surrounds just because it doesn't cost much more and you won't have lingering doubts about whether your speaker wire is really good enough for long runs. The question is, is $6 a spool worth it to you for peace of mind? It was for me.
