RT 35 X-Over or tweeter? Odd parts query

Hello all,
I've been a member for a LOOOOONG time, (so long it seems, that the database kicked me to the curb) but here's my first post. I've got a set of RT35s with one speaker missing a working tweeter. I've had these things lying around, because I thought I would just have to buy a new tweet. Well, I swapped the pair's tweeters, and the failure seems to be tied to one cabinet. This would be the crossover, right? Well, I removed the crossover, and it 'appears' to be fine. No scorch marks or loose wiring/bad solder. Now what? Can I use a multimeter to check the thing out? Along the same lines, one of the woofers has had the dustcap falloff - literally. Should I worry about any debris getting into the voice coil gap? Can I purchase the dustcap? Also, can I purchase JUST the tweeter dome/voicecoil? The magnet structures on mine seem to be fine.
I look forward to any and all input. Thank you.

Does the tweeter from the broke speaker play in the one you switch into the other one?
If so, its definetely not the tweeter.
So unless there is a short between the wires going from the xover to the tweeter, it will definetely be the crossover. Which, for your sake - I hope it is. Polk no longer makes that tri-lam tweeter.
As for the dust cap, it would be wise to get one put back on it, I dunno if you can purchase one from Polk, but www.partsexpress.com would probally carry one.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Yes - both tweeters play in one of the cabinets. As for being tri-laminate, I think only the RT55 had them. These are black domes. They look like the domes in my RT12s and CS245. Can you still get these 'new'? I'm always on the lookout for used twweters on eBray JIK I need them down-the-road. Just got a pair to backup my S8s.

Hmm, You sure about them being the RT35? I am not 100% sure, but I think the RT35 used a tri-lam. The RT5 though used a Polymer, black dome - and a black midbass, with dual front firing ports...
Anyways, if the tweeter plays in one cabinet, but not the other. It is NOT the tweeter. The crossover is the culprit. Polk probally carries the crossover, you just need to make sure you know what speaker you have first before you request one...
Make sure you mention you are a CP memeber, 5% dicount and free 2nd day shipping.
Good luck.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Thank you VR3*,
Yes, I am sure they are RT35s. Too heavy to be RT5s.
Still have the barcode and moniker on the rear. Power port in the back, single port on front(through the diffusion baffle). Single 6.5" woofer, and SL5509 black-domed tweeter. Perhaps the RT35i had the trilam. I don't remember. I know the std RT lineup didn't last long before moving to the 'improved' version of the RT#i series. I am writing Ken S. to see what he has to say. -
Yep. The 35i has the trilaminate tweet. Polk still has the listing in the archives.
