Yeah, youll be the first one to own the P9 and no you dont have to buy the EQ.

As for sub placement, experiement. There isnt a set rule.

And there isnt anything really wrong with your new sub, Polk subs are just that good!

If I had to guess Id say the wide and narrow crap is the curve of the crossover. So you could cross it at 80 Hz and then adjust the curve to either narrow (24 db) or wide (6 db).

It gets real low and all shakes all my interior... but nothing flexes hard besides the backseats. But like some songs should really beat that aren't.

Like you listen to ludacris all the time it'd be a great setup... but that i don't.

Youve also got to consider break in time. A sub isnt going to sound its best right out of the box. Itll take a while for it to break in properly then it may cut loose.

Or it may not be all its cracked up to be. Shoulda stuck with the Polks! ;)

without getting the eq, i dont think it would be worth it to get the p9, unless you planned on getting it in the future. If not, go with the 960mp or 9600mp. I had the 960, and its got more features then you will ever need

The pop is because of timing. Different brands of gear have different delay cycles for powering down/up.

When you first power up an amp, the flow of current suddenly flowing into the amp is not stable and so your amplifier dutifully reporduces this inrush as a THUMP. Same thing when you power it down.

Your Alpine has a "soft start" so that when you turn it on it starts out with the volume at 0 and then moves it up to the level it was at before you turned it off. However, it doesnt have one for when you turn it off.

You can build your own timer circuit but I dont have the foggiest idea of how to.

bleh my car picks it up good... I think i'm missing alot of mids lol.

on my way home i found out i can go lots further with the volume knob than 24. simply because I tuned it at 34.... no clipping or anything so that's good. i get it up to about 27 and i can't bear some of the bass. like i said i am just being very skeptical.

oh yea... i stopped at my INsurance agent and put 5000 dollars worth of protection on my ****... and I think i'm getting the p9

The curve is actually the parametric equalizer. Slope is what crossovers use...

I wasn't picking on you, for once :D I was just clarifying the difference. Adam mentioned a "curve", which refers to Alpine's built-in parametric equalizer.
