i am. this version of hotel california is more like the original with the guitars front and center and not the congo drums they used in the 94 reunion DVD.

one of the few groups i've heard that sound better live than in the studio.

Yep, just got through watching this. Definitely liked this version of hotel california, more like the studio version but ended like the hell freezes over version...

I can't think of many other groups off the top of my head that have been around for the last 35 years...granted the ten year vacation probably helps with longevity...

I never was a fan but I watched a little of it just out of respect.

No doubting their contribution to music.

Great Show! Of course I'm a huge fan. I was in my late teens and early 20s when their stuff started coming out and I still have all of their 70s albums on vinyl (which have been replaced with CDs). I wish that Don Felder could have been back like the Hell Freezes over Concert, but they had a fallout after the 99 reunion and have been suing each other. I would also like to have seen Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon with them. I know all of them (Frey, Walsh, Henley, Schmidt, Felder, Meisner and Leadon) were together and performed for their induction into the R&R Hall of Fame, but I have never seen that footage. I think it is cool that these guys don't try to hide the fact that they are in their mid-to-late 50s....not tring to still act young (ie: Aerosmith). I am impressed at how well their voices have held up. I see where this concert will be available on DVD in a couple of week. I may have to pick it up.

Yeah, but with the exception of Chicago, the Eagles have a few years on all those guys I think - I could be wrong. The only groups that I can think of that have been around as long as them:

    Chicago
The Rolling Stones - I guess
    Tower of Power

True, but none of those bands I mentioned took a 12 to 14 year hiatus either and were steadily touring and/or cutting new albums every 2 or 3 years or so during all that time.

Stones have been around for over 40 years now!

I disagree that the list is almost endless...and that's basically the opposite of my point entirely. My point was that not many bands have been around that long.

First person to name just 20 bands that have been around for 30 years or longer (bands that we've heard of) gets the magic prize:D.

If the list is almost endless, this should be an easy task considering the thousands of bands that we've seen over the years...

Well, if the Eagles count even with their decade and a half break, then besides the aforementioned 10 bands:
    Black Sabbath
    Deep Purple
    Neil Diamond
    Earth, Wind and Fire
    Moody Blues
    Nazerath
    Ted Nugent
    Sammy Haggar
    Judas Priest
    Scorpions
    etc.

Had enough yet, or do I need to keep going on?

I wouldn't include any of those bands with the Eagles with the exception of The Stones and maybe Aerosmith. IMO, the Eagles are a top 10 Rock band of all time.

You'd have to mention Van Halen, AC/DC, Kiss and ZZ Top in the same breath as Eagles and Aerosmith any way you look at it, longetivety, sales, etc.

No need to get personal man...and yes, keep going, let's see how many you can name and if the list is 'nearly endless'

I didn't know Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Nazerath, Juda Preist, or the Scorpions ever had a 30 years stint...but I could be wrong...

I can name BUNCHES of groups who have been around 10 or 20 years, not many over 30 though. Even with their break, the individual members of the Eagles still did solo work in their off time.

The point it is....there aren't a whole lot of bands who have been able to keep it together for so long. If that list is 'nearly endless' as you say, then what would you call the list of all bands that have ever existed?? Infinity x 6???

I think it's safe to say that less than 5% of the bands that reach fame (and we're just walking famous bands, not all the thousands of groups we've never heard of) ever hold it together for more than a few years. That was my original point, that 35 years together (even with a break) is quite an accomplishment, and that not many group have acheived that.

Oh, and all the solo acts don't count in my book. It's one thing to be able to make music your whole life, but something completely different to be able to keep a band together...

And to those who say "well it's easy to take a few years off and just come back together like the Eagles did..." - I don't agree with that point of view. Where is the Beatles reunion tour, how about Zepplin, anyone seen The Police in concert lately.

Not getting personal, and didn't mean for it to even sound that way if it did.

All the bands I mentioned have all been around in some form since at least 1975.

I think the point has been made that there are many bands or singers that are still active with at least a 30 year history.

Well, regarding keeping a band together, even the Eagles had personel changes over the years.

As for the Beatles, well, that's pretty much impossible now.

I still disagree. I don't think that 20 or so bands (or even 50) out of thousands of bands qualifies as many bands. When less than 5% (and probably closer to 1%) of groups are able to sustain over the decades, I wouldn't call that 'many'. Taken into perspective, I'd call that very few.

Again, solo acts don't count in my book, it's different than keeping a band together. It's still quite an achievement, just not the same to me...

I'm gonna put The Moody Blues and Rush into your lists of long-running bands.

I saw the Moody Blues in 2000, I think... they were promoting their new album. rush did the Vapor Trails tour most recently...

edit- woops... see the moody blues were already mentioned. Just put me down for Rush, then :)
