sda crs divided balance sound problem?

To begin , I have never heard these playing correctly. I bought these at a pawn shop and have been looking into them. I replaced a driver , no problem.cut out some speaker wire rigging on one croosover that looked like it could have caused a problem.
I just replaced a cap. and res. in one speaker(left channel)and it was on the stereo crossover, no problem.they play with all fuses in place now.
With music playing
WITHOUT interconnect hooked up:
Sound comes from the left speakers right driver and right tweeter
sound comes from the rt. speakers left driver and left tweeter
WITH the interconnect hooked up:small to sm, large to lg.
Balance knob on receiver on RIGHT only :
ALL drivers and tweeters in right speaker play
left driver and left tweeter in left speaker play ( don't know why)
balance knob on receiver on LEFT only :
right driver and rt. tweeter in left speaker are all that play.
Can anybody tell me why when on left balance only, all the left channel drivers and tweeters aren't playing+ the right driver and rt. tweeter in the right speaker too. ?
I really think its a matter of one wire croosed with another but they all look good to me.( I DO have the schematic here to check by. I have not removed the sda crossovers yet.I hope I don't have to.

I'm just guessing but I thought the whole SDA thing was one speaker sent an out of phase signal to the other speaker. In this case one speaker would need to be sending a signal, so balancing all the sound to the speaker sending the signal will still cause both speakers to play. Balancing the sound to the speaker that is on the receiving end should cut out a mid driver from that speaker, maybe more I dunno. Try switching the speakers and see if it reverses.
I just pulled that answer out of my ****, I really have no idea if that is what's going on. -
I read my request over and it would seem I butchered the crossover wires. NOT THE CASE:) .
Someone else added cheap speaker wire as jumpers from certain points to others. only 2 were used , but I think that is why the resistor fried. I replaced the cap. that sits on top of it too.
when I bought them only one fuse was able to be used in each speaker. at least now I think I'm closer to getting them back to original shape.
Also , should the base output equal a Monitor 10's or is a Monitor 7's more like it? It sounds more like the 7's right now,and yes they are very bright compared to a set of rt55s I have in the same room. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
I'll check again but I think I did switch and got the opposite results. I'll do it now again to double check. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
-
If you get opposite results then I think I am right. But it might be wise to wait for someone who actually has a pair of SDA's to chime in lol. Is there a problem? Or did you just wanna know why this was happening?
-
YUP,
The opposite happens. The rights' results become the lefts' and vise-versa.
I do feel it is a problem thats in a wire switching that the previous owners did.
The schematic Isn't detailed enough for my limited knowlege so I'm hoping you-all just might know which wires need to be switched back. I know all wires are where they were when I first opened them up with the exception of putting a loose wire back onto a connection just like the other cabinet had its wires. Also cutting out the crap. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
At first one tweeter didn't play and one woofer was scratchy. those problems have been solved.
I think there is too much to ask for the one set of driver and tweeter to play as loud as the other three.
I hope for another owner to reply also.
What these speakers sold for(NEW) I hope they sound as nice as the monitor 10'swith that extra sda effect.
I 'm sencing something with the sound now but I have 4 tweeters going on .The midrange and highs are all anybody could hope for but the base is lacking now. I've heard it sometimes but then I think I was just hoping I did. It could be upper base I hear.

Thanks for the breakdown on their operating design. You said it just the way I needsd to hear it . I do feel good about getting closer now .
It must be in one of the sda cross-overs huh. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
I looked the schematic over with the stereo crossovers and they seemed ok with what I could understand and trace, but to get to the sda cross-overs was alot harder.I tried earlier to loosen one and the nut on the inside gave me trouble on one so I stoped and retightened it . feel I'm in for some surgery time and I will HAVE to get them down and have a look see. I 'll check on the sda test too later.
Thank you-all sooo much. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Also, check the connections on the SDA driver and tweeter in the left speaker. They could be reversed. Black or blue is positive, white is negative.Political Correctness'.........defined

10-4,
I'm pretty sure all drivers are polarity correct and tweeters too.
I was looking for a reason for the lack of deep loud bass.
I put the speakers back together earlier but I'll probably go after the sda cross-overs tomorrow night. Any guess as to which speaker should be the first to look into? Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
The left one? Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

I'll shine a light into the cabinet from a removed driver and compare the wiring and look for any damaged components.
So I guess that means I'll start with both anyway.:)
Its a holiday weekend so I should do it now. It's 2am w t hay:DMost people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Now that I think about it....good question. Check both.
As for lack of bass there are a few possibilities. You've only got one driver working in the left speaker, which will affect bass response. How close to the back wall are they? There should be no toe-in. Are they on stands and are the stands the proper height? Spikes on the stands help a lot. What kind of power are you driving them with? The CRS's have a smaller internal volume than the Monitor 10's, so you'll have to work at getting that kind of bass from the CRS's with room placement, source, wire and power.Political Correctness'.........defined

I thought about that volume space having a factor too .Maybe the polarity is switched on that cross-over but I think that would have caused a short huh.?
I see what I feel is a wiring problem. I'll check harder into the wiring diagram. the colors don't seem to be coming and going insync with what the other is doing .(I do know the BLUE for + in right and black for + in the left speaker(channel).I'm going to think about which speaker is sending the correct info. for the cross talk signal and look at the wires paths close.
Its getting late huh...
I'm going to reverse my imput wires back to the way they were when I turn the balance to right all speakers work on the right + you know on the left.It should mean the left sda cross-over should match the rights layout. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Your're right , they are sitting out in to the room 3 1/2ft. off the floor one on top of the other against the wall will help later on.Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Good luck with your speakers.
- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Thank you ,
well , I couldn't find what I thought was a problem with the wires. They seem to be wired the same now .I thought there was a color miss-match but they seem to be in sync now. The wire female ends are different sizes too, so it would be kind of hard to miss-match them but who knows.
I'll look again tomorrow and see.I might have to remove both sda cross- overs. Then I can compare the wires that go underneath the circuit boards. They might be different. The one with 2 black wires coming out from behind might be the culprit.
Talk to you later.
I'll check in from time to time tomorrow and see if anybody else has had this problem. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Still no luck. I spent about 2 hrs looking and testing .I'm going to put this project to the side untill further help arrives.Test manual or cross=over engineers from POLK could add a possible solution.

If you want to discuss this on the side, email me....dorokusai@comcast.netCTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I'm sorry nothing has worked out for you yet. Doro was speaking to you, offering to help you, but off the forum. I'm not sure why he wants to do it that way, but he is knowledgable.Political Correctness'.........defined

I've thought about this too and it has me swinging. Not a common problem to my knowledge. Check in with Doro.

I did Email him twice and I got no reply . I don't know why he wants to do it off forum either.Maybe a consultation fee or something.ThanksMost people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

I just don't feel like posting here....and a fee? That's fine, get your help elsewhere then.
Just as a side note, I received one email.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

Wrong road to go down.
No one ever charges anyone for the help offered in the forums and Mark has helped hundreds. It's entirely up to him as to where he would like to have his discussions.

DORO,
I was left hanging . I'm used to helping people with out even getting a thank you most of the time , and when I need help it seems I have to pay some kind of price ,be it trading, paying $or whatever. I say what comes to my mind and this is just another example of someone taking it the wrong way. I'm probably the most grateful person you would ever get to know. You help me ,I never forget, but the people that do me wrong, well I guess I don"t forget them either. I am NOT implying you did me wrong by telling me to get help elsewhere. I was NOT saying you were a scumbag if you wanted to charge me off forum. I honestly thought that could have been a viable option for someones experience in a perticular field. It must have made your blood pressure rise just like your denial to help for your reason did mine.
I hope you understand I ment NO disrespect to you.!
Thank you,

Bob,
I am still new to POLK forum and didn't know any help offered off of forum guidelines would still be free.
I feel now he likes to help people on a one on one basis, without anybody else getting in the way.

Pretty much everyone in here helps out as much as possible when they can, either through posts, PMs or emails. Kinda like one big happy family.
Ok..... so not "always" happy and there is an occasional family feud....... but a happy bunch for the most part. Not a bad thing to be a part of.
BTW: You and I must have been posting at about the same time above.
