    billbillw,

Sorry, I always just say RPTV when talking about crt rear projections. I know, dlp uses a DMD, or digital micromirror device with a color wheel (most are 7-segment), and a bulb. LCDs use three different lcd chips one for each of the primary colors, mixed in with a bulb similar to the dlps.

And just a heads up, not to sound snide, but the sony in LSi9's picture is a sony wf655 lcd projo, and the resolution is 1386x788, not 1280x720. I still agree with you that a properly calibrated crt rptv will look better then it when properly calibrated.

How are the CRT RPTV's when viewed from an angle? Do they still get that dark shadow when viewed from the side?

I went from a Tube TV to a CRT Rear Projection set to an LCD Front Projector.

One thing is for certain, I will never go back to a TV again.

First off, you cannot (like said earlier) imagine the wow factor of a large front projected image. Secondly, my LCD FP will stand tall against most of those CRT rear projection TVs. The image is just as clean, just as sharp and just as colorful. The draw back is the black level but from my experience it is an extremely minor drawback. So much so that everyone that has seen both of my setups cannot tell the difference in the image quality other then the LCDs FP image is twice as big.

Don't waste your money on a expensive TV. Get the least inexpensive TV you can find for everyday viewing and get a FP unit. Buy both and you'll still have money in the bank over buying a Rear Projection TV.

LCD black levels have come a very, very long way. They are not the LCDs of old that most people remember and refer to.

Also, stay clear of Plasmas, they produce some of the worst image quality I have seen. A tube TV will give you better.

This 55"RP LCD has better quality than any Mitsu RP CRT, and considering the size just as good quality in proportion to any tube hdtv
LCD is the future, especially since they will soon be made with ultra bright LED back lighting, only one on the market today w/ LED, a 46" $15,000 sony
There really are easier ways to shoot your credibility right out the window.

To say a comment like this obviously means you've never seen a Mitsu Diamond 55" CRT properly setup/tuned. If you have and still made this comment, then you're telling me exactly how good your eyes are.
