Talk about a blessing in disguise! So glad he insisted on going to the Eagles.

I love this part:

"I know I'm a top player in the game, and my current contract doesn't justify that," Owens had said after hiring Rosenhaus."

Poor guy. How will he make ends meet?

WTF doesn't he understand about a contract being just that? What arrogance to think he can just renegotiate at his will. He can be entertaining, but he's not on my list of good people.

Wrong team to try to renegotiate with. If he even plays this year, he'll be run out of town soon enough. It happened to Duce Staley, and the fans loved him. TO had a nice welcome last year because of his play making ability, but I wouldn't be surprised if the city turns on him very quickly.

It was interesting to see Tagliebue also thought TO was an idiot. He said to some extent he could understand this move with a year left on the contract, but not for a guy who signed the contract just a year ago.

I would love to see, just 1 time, the league stand up to an **** like him. Tell him that you'll be happy to void his contract and negotiate another one. Offer him $1 to play. Have all the teams make the same offer.

Sorry TO, we don't want you in the NFL! Go pay Arena FB a visit.

I see the Eagles booting his ****!

I'm not the biggest Philly fan, It's my home team, I like to see them win.

I also like the fact we picked him up last year. I felt it was huge. I'm not feeling him asking for more money. What the hell do you do with 49 Million dollars anyway? To play football it's insane. Thats a ton of money. Greedy **** piss me off. If he goes, he goes. I hope the birds can find another quality receiver.

I like more money like anyone, but come on

Hardly a fan of his, but I actually thought for a while last year that TO was going to work out in Philly. Especially given the abbreviated recovery from the broken leg and all. Gutsy, and even admirable stuff.

But no-o-o-o-o-o-o... he had to go and be TO...

If I was the Eagles GM, I would give him a 10y, $200M contract offer.

No signing bonus, league minimum for the first 9 years and the rest on the last year of the contract. He wants a rich contract so I would give it to him. Maybe then he would understand a little about what he is asking. I highly doubt it though, the guy can play but he's an idiot.

The longer he sits out, the more money I would demand back from the signing bonus he already received. That's not your money yet TO, just ask Ricky Williams.

You guys crack me the f*#k up. You know why rats asses like this guy can pull this ****, and probably get away with it? Do you?

It's because YOU GUYS pay to see these clowns. Because YOU guys buy hats and jerseys and jackets with the names of these thugs and morons on them. YOU GUYS create these dirtbags. OKAY? If nobody went to see them, they'd be making what the rest of us make. I wouldn't pay a freaking nickel to go to a pro sporting event. In fact, you couldn't PAY ME to go and see the ****.

No jerseys, hats, shirts or game tickets have been bought by me! I haven't gone to a Ravens game since the city got the team. Haven't been to an Orioles game in about 10 years.

Been to one Cowboys game (hey, the tickets were free), one Rangers game (hate the game but again, free tickets), couple of Mavericks games that I bought the tickets myself (but those are cheap) and then of course the Stars which I see once or twice a year.

All in all I don't pay to see the pro games much at all (due to high prices) but George is right, they wouldn't get paid if the fans would stop going to the games and buying merchandise.

Oh, I do have one Jersey too. #20 Detroit Lions. You can hardly call him an ****.

How about in the NBA, guys like, just for one example even though he's far from being the only one, Alonzo Mourning.

He was traded from NJN to Toronto, refused to report to Toronto and demanded they buy out his contract, which they did. Then he promptly turns around and signs with the Miami Heat. It is at a reduced rate, but he has already been paid from the buyout too. Toronto should have just not paid him even a penny when he refused to report, much less actually reward him for it!

What is unforgivable in my book is when a pro athlete dogs it intentionally to get traded. When you are being paid by joe schmoe to entertain, you bust your hump day in and day out, regardless of you liking your team or not. Get traded later. Anyways, Vince Carter, Gary Sheffield, and Carlos Guillen are the ones I know of and I will never have anything nice to say about them again.

Sports is about entertaining but it is also about winning. It is frustrating to be on a losing team year in and year out so I can understand someone wanting out.

Its fine to want out, and be vocal about it. I have no problem with that. But at the same time someone needs to tell them, YOU MAKE MILLIONS FOR PLAYING A GAME. Complain all you want, but people are paying for your full effort.

I don't see anything wrong in complaining if the management isn't doing their best to yield a winning team. Corey Dillon wanted out of Cincinnati, for a good reason, and was labeled as cancer. Much better than seeing Barry Sanders retire so early (one can only speculate why he did it but the Lions management is one major suspect in that case).

and one can only imagine what the rushing record would now be had he stayed in the game...I don't think it would belong to E. Smith, that's for sure...and imagine if Barry had actually played on a good team...

I would rather watch a a bunch of 10 year olds play football, a high school baseball game, a middle school basketball game, a ASA girls 14U fastpitch softball game, a college volleyball game....or any game where kids play because they love the game...than to watch most professional sports.

To give you an idea this last week I attended two HS fastpitch softball games, a HS baseball game and a HS tennis match where none of my kids participated. This is the time of year for high school playoffs and I know many of the kids and enjoy watching them play. Many will never even play in college, much less the pros but they play hard and play to win. They are fun to watch.

I even lose interest with stuff like AAU basketball where these guys are doing nothing but showcasing their talent for the "next" level. Sadly some college sports are getting to the point that they are nothing more than training grounds for the pros.

I've been around sports all my life as a player, coach, parent, spectator...and I like sports. But with the pro's (and even in college FB & BB), the individuals are becoming bigger than the game. The skill level of the athletes is so good, but so much is wasted on the ME, ME, ME, ME attitude of so many of today's pros. It has been a long time since I sat down and watched a comeplete pro game of any sort. I definitely will not ever pay for a ticket to a pro event.

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand this argument. It's like saying you'd rather watch a high school play than a well-produced Hollywood movie just because the stars are a bunch of spoiled brats. It's not about the people, it's about the PRODUCT, and the PRODUCT is the sport you're watching. I don't pay 100 dollars a whack to go to Patriots games cuz I want Tom Brady to buy another Cadillac. I want to see the best possible players play the other best possible players; I want to see unbelievable stadiums and sit in the middle of them and experience this well-oiled machine of an experience; I want F18's to fly over and Ozzy or some other crap blaring from a huge soundsystem. It's an experience, and that's what you pay for.

When you start talking about a bunch of 10-year olds playing, unless they're YOUR KIDS, which would obviously be the most exciting thing in the WORLD to watch for a parent, who gives a crap? I'd rather just get out there and PLAY myself than watch a bunch of kids screw up the game.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

    IMO the PRODUCT mostly sucks!

Let's watch a bunch of guys slam dunk over and over and then repeatedly tank a 10 ft. jumper or free throw. (the rim swinging is always a treat!) Then watch them stroll down to the other end and try to remember what the word defense means.

Let's watch a guy make a tackle after a 5 yard gain and then dance for 30 sec. Or catch a ball for a 5 yard gain and then do 6 chest bumps. And if there is a touchdown we get to see more choreography than a Broadway show...

Lets watch roided up guys hit batting practice HRs from average or poor quality pitching because there is not enough good pitching in the majors to fill out 4 man rotations or bullpens for all the teams. Or let,s watch a batter with more body armour that a swat team member stand on top of the plate and then charge the mound when he gets hit.

Lets watch a crazy Canadian take the puck at center ice....no wait ...there is no hockey.

    There's always wrestling....

At least when a 10 year old kid screws up in a game he knows he messed up and and hopefully tries to get better as opposed to the pro who blames everybody but himself, and claims it's all because he's getting disrespected and if he was making more money he could concentrate better.

Yes....these guys are GREAT athletes, who can make GREAT plays, and many of them are GREAT guys...but pro sports have become a spectacle that just happens to have a winner. I you enjoy that....fine....it's your money....your time...have at it. I'll go watch the 10 year olds screw up...and maybe even pay for the after game team cokes for the effort.

Out of the major leagues NHL was easily the one without all the peacocks. It's a shame it's not on. I do agree that with less of the show attitude it would make a much better spectator sport for us mature fans.

Peacock-wise, I'd agree the NHL has the fewest, but they have a few...

Of the major pro sports, I'd say peacock rankings from most to least would be...
    1. NBA
    2. MLB
    3. NFL
    4. NHL

MLB and NFL are a close call... could even be a tie.

Thats fair. I guess I interpret 'peacocking' to be just on field shananigans. NFL has that one locked down for sure. I am so tired of defensemen jumping around like idiots for making an easy tackle. Thats your job, and for making tackles, you get to keep your job. Its not a celebration.

Anyways, yeah, MLB players do make more, but thanks to their 162 game season, seats are still pretty affordable. In Seattle you can get a seat for as low as $7 I believe. They may be greedy, but most everyone can still afford to get into the show. NFL, NBA, and NHL are a different story, but they also have shorter seasons and (except NFL) smaller arenas.
