Thinking of a.....B&K ST-3140

Well I haven't even recieved my Adcom 5400 yet and already I'm looking for a three channel amp to mate with the Adcom. I'm thinking about the B&K 3140 used...If I can find one used. They are both MOSFET designs and I'm curious as to the sound qualities between the two units. Sid has compared the Adcoms as being fairly close to the B&K sonically and I'm just wondering if any other members have any thoughts on mating the two brands.

My speakers are all timbre matched and I would like the amps to be as close as possible sonically also.

I was in the process of downgrading my H/T system to concentrate on two channel but that didn't last too long. So I'm trying to integrate a decent two channel into a decent H/T system with a couple affordable used amps. Damn I'm so poor! :(

    They are close, but all in all the B&K is worth it for that - edge - more in SQ, the B&K compared to the Adcoms were much more refined and detailed. The Adcom had alot more 'force' though.

    Adcom is a brute force amp...

    B&K is kind of like a brute force amp for a dress ;)

    Dan, can't find one used anywhere right now. I was watching one on the bay a while back and the bidding just got ridiculous. Think I may purchase an adcom 5002 (for the center) to mate with the 5400 for my mains. There is a 5002 on the bay right now...buy it now for $150. Also, I missed out on a B&K 1430 on AG. Sucks being poor!

    Yup, I will. I can be an impatient SOB though. One of my many vices. Anyway, I just grabbed that 5002 adcom for my center...I'm real curious as to how the 5400 and the 5002 will sound with my H/K and RTxxxi's. Just amazing how many variables are involved in putting together systems. Room acoustics, cables, etc. Just part of what makes this hobby exciting I guess.
