OK, who has some Ideas. I need some more new music. What I'm looking for is someone like Tom Coster. He is Progressive Jazz. Very upbeat and fast.

Anyone have anything cool to check out???

Also need some more femal Voice. Something clear and smooth.

Last but not least Acoustical music. I would like to hear some stuff with acoustic instruments. Progressive, soft, world or whatever I'm in need of some new stuff.

Alison Krauss - bluegrass with a lot of acoustical instruments. Killer voice on her. A few songs Union Station members may sing (male voices) and can get a little twangy but to hear Alison is a treat.

Mindi Abair - jazz and she plays sax. I would call this progressive jazz. She also sings.

Cowboy Junkies new album is pretty cool. Female voice here too (Margo Timmins). The new album is called "One Soul Now".

I've been also digging the new Jimmy Eat World cd "Futures". Its more alternative but there are about 4 to 5 really good songs on here. One of the better current day groups out there.

Here's a cool place to check out music online; you can watch videos:

    Dan,

If your looking for a clear female voice, I would recommend
Queen Latifah: The Dana Owens Album

    Beautiful voice...great recording

i just noticed that a few recordings that i've always gone to for big, fat, juicy, immersive soundstages all have qsound in common.

something here might be worth a try.

one on the list above, mars lasar, 'eleventh hour', doesn't fit into your list's request but if you've never heard it and you're just looking for something different, it might be worth a spin. if you're familiar with rw's 'amused to death', you'll recognize the similar sonic character as soon as you hear it.

new to me, just found out about this Hawaiian singer. he has an amazing voice, the music incredibly moving.

you might have heard his version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow in movies or tv. can't really understand why his version has such an effect on me, very touching.

Do you have Al Dimeola's Land of the Midnight Sun? A couple of pretty mellow tunes (for him) and a few that really jam. Acoustic and electric stuff.

Yeah, I've heard him on commercials and stuff. The first movie that comes to mind with his version is Meet Joe Black - I think that was his first major exposure over here - also a good score on that album, composed by Thomas Newman (one of my favorites)

I second the Mindi Abair suggestions.

For female voice- Diana Krall is hard to beat.

For tasteful guitar - and if you are a New York Yankee fan,
Bernie Williams is very refreshing. Shocks a ton of people how truly talented he is musically.

    Dan,

I have been enjoying Dave Alvin/Blackjack David and a young lady named Jonatha Brooke (well young for me) some really nice bass lines on the full size bass instrument along with guitar, Dave Alvin is fantastic with acoustical music.

    Dan,
Hear what your system is capable of with this CD. One of the best vocal work I've heard. She was 16 on the recording (18 now). This is REAL talent.

This is probably the best redbook recording I've heard. You can check out samples here... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001IXTIG/qid=1115789952/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/103-9904059-5159810?v=glance&s=music&n=507846

Another album I highly recommend is this one... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000002SMW/qid=1115790070/sr=8-9/ref=pd_ka_2/103-9904059-5159810?v=glance&s=classical&n=507846 I love all her albums up to "La Luna". You can find SACD versions on ebay(Asian release only).

I mentioned Regina Belle earlier based on the song I heard on the radio, Lazy Afternoon. Well I just bought the CD of the same name and I can't recommend this highly enough if you enjoy Jazz female vocalists. Overall, it is an absolutely wonderful CD.

The CD that keeps going with me for reference is "Spanish Garden" by Benedetti and Svoboda. Classical guitar players. I'm not sure if this is the best recorded album I own, but it seems to be the one that will reveal weaknesses in a system - or turn your head when the hardwear gets it right. Very enjoyable listen in any case.
