Speaker Mounting Issues
I want to mount my RTI38s on an angle on the ceiling as my side surrounds. Im building boxes that will sit in between the ceiling joists and point the speakers towards the center of the seating area. The box is a few inches wider than the speaker. The room is about 12 x 20 (its wider, but a support beam splits the room with the other half being lower due to a sunk in living room). The couch spans the entire width of room. I tried mounting them flat on the walls, but they stick out too much and are way above your head (so I switched them with the rear fxi30s). My questions are; would there be a sonic issue, and what would be the best way to mount them? (Or should I just scrap the whole project). (Ive attached a picture. Size is aprox.) Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Scrap it.
Can you post some pics of the room? I suggest you go with Polk inwall speakers. This makes for a killer install and looks clean. No speakers hanging all over the place.
This is where you wanna be

I'll try to take some pictures and post them. I really didn't want to go with new speakers, and I don't mind them sticking out a bit (they'll look kind of cool sticking out of the ceiling). Also, only one side of the room has a wall, and that wall is covering the stairs (it's a basement). The other side is just a beam that comes down 16" that supports upstairs (The room is twice the width. Just one half is used for the home theater). Since I don't have 2 walls, I would have to mount the speakers in the ceiling facing down. And wouldn't I lose a little of the surround effect like that?
The problem I have is how I can mount it to the box. Is the power port attached securly enough to the speaker hold the weight of the speaker at an angle like that? And would putting it in a box like that hurt the sound (or would it help with the base response?). I was thinking of using the keyhole to support it to the box, and a strap to hold the lower half (I would actually bolt something to the keyhold and create a another larger reenforced keyhole on the box).
Any response is greatly appreciated. Thanks.Denon AVR-3803
