My Tv will not hold my center channel.

I'm lookng for a company(before I talk to a cabnet maker) that makes deep large selves. I would like a maplewood,at least 40 inches wide, and 15 inches deep. Something modern that would work in my livingroom. I assume alot of you saw my pics .

Anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: NM.....the shelf I was thinking of only holds 11 pounds and was just barely over 10" deep so wouldn't do what you were looking for.

Is the 15" depth mandatory or are you working some extra in there?

    Dan,

I bought a wood stainable shelf many years ago to hold a TV, it was the right depth for you, but finding one 40" wide may be a problem.

Anyway, the one I got was from a local hardware store, sorry cant be of more help.

How about getting Salamander to make you one???

    brettw22,
yeah I need the depth. The center channel has a mini stand or a cradle. It allows the center to be pointed. The center weighs 25.1 lbs and the cradle weighs a few lbs as well. I'm sure the wife will want to put stuff on it.

    reeltrouble1,
Salamander makes a center shelf to go under the tv, this will put my tv to high. I can also get the extention poles and put the shelf above the tv. This is the way I'm gonna go if I can't find a wall shelf.

looking on the internet is fustrating.

    I could make it...

Would depend on what you want...

    Plans?

Not sure what your wanting by your description

Are you wanting this thing mounted on the wall?

I could easily make a solid maplewood shelf (EASY)....

However, your looking at 1-2 weeks for me to do (I will have to get the wood, plane (sp) it down, joint it, glue it all together, plane it again, saw it to size, sand it, route it (to give it a look), then attach the back

After cost of wood/labor/shipping - it would be cheaper to go local

I don't know that I could imagine a shelf high enough to shoot sound above and down to your seating position over a tv the size yours is.

For some reason in my head i'm thinking that thing will be 5-6' or higher so the TV isn't completely blocking the direction of sound.

Good luck to ya though....If you could live with 10-12" deep, a different type of shelf from IKEA would be GREAT.....it's what I have my left surround on if you look in my system showcase. I just cut the 4' shelf down to 15" sections and bought extra brackets as needed.

Thanks Sid. Thats cool of you to offer.

    brettw22,

Thanks as well but I need 15 inches due to how big the damn center channel is. The center stand also adds a few inchs.

I'm thinking I gotta call Salamander back and go with that plan.... Man I wish I had the extra cash to go plasma... then the center could go right on top of the stand and the plasma on the wall.

    Damn,

We have one as well. It has velcro tabs and screw adjustments. I think it looks ugly. I'm trying to avoid using it. The new tv's suck for this reason. Thanks anyway

    Mantis,

I was surfing Audio Advisor and came across the maple side panels for sale. If you found out what the dimensions are you might be able to use one of them...

It can be easily made with a piece of 3/4" oak plywood and stained in a maple finish. You can special order maple wider then 12" also. If done with plywood, you can always line the edges with a piece of hardwood trim. Most kitchen cabinets are 80% plywood with a solid hardwood front. I make furniture as a hobby so it wouldn't cost that much to do. Would it be possible to post another pic so I have a better idea of what exactly it is you are looking to do. I may have a bunch of solid oak laying around the work shop.

There was a fellow on here several months ago that made an awesome CD shelf. Sorry I can't remember the name. It covered a complete wall. Certainly a fellow who could professionally make whatever you want. Might want to put a WTB in the flea market or just do searches and find him. There was a thread pertaining to starting a business. Sorry, thats all I can remember.

    tryrrthg,
I own that stand and they make a center shelf. I would have to custom order the poles for it. It would box in my tv and thats what I tred to get away from when I went Salamander and it seems I'm right back where I started with that idea. It's my last resort but I'm still looking for something custom. I may have to hire a cabnet maker to come over and build me something nice..
    Thanks

    Grimster74,
man that would be killer. I'll post a pic when I switch computer, there is my laptop

    madmax,
    Thanks man

You could add downtilt with door stop shoes....cut to desired length, and spray paint them black. I'm sure you don't need but a couple degrees, so they would be small.

    dorokusai,

That may work, it's alittle short but will hold the weight. The center weighs 25 lbs and is 22.5"w x 6.5"h x 12.6"d. I'm gonna call the company and see if that will work.

It extends up to 11"....I can't imagine you would need more for that size speaker. I'm sure you'll work something out either way, good luck.
