I received both of mine yesterday, of note was the jewel case copy was not sealed, but the limited edition was. Doro told me his jewel case copy wasn't sealed either. Anyway, this is what I noticed after one listen. The bass is tighter, quicker and has more slam. The detail is much improved and the soundstage is wider. There is still a bit of glare on the cymbals, but it's a improvement over the redbook copies I have. More to come.

My regular version of the BIA SACD wasn't sealed either; the digipak version was (and will remain) sealed.

I had a chance tonight for a good listen to the 3 copies I have, the original redbook all digital copy, the JVC XRCD redbook copy and the new SACD. I used a SPL meter to balance the level to a average of 95dB. I chose the first song, "So Far Away" for the comparision.

First the original, which I haven't listened to in a long time. It sounds flat, lifeless if you will, with little bass. Funny thing to me is that I use to think this was a great recording years ago. Of note, I had to turn up the volume to about 11:30 to achieve the 95dB average and there was little in the way of dynamics.

Second the XRCD, this has some life to it. The bass is still a bit weak, but the soundstage is nice and it has pretty good detail. It lacked in decay though. Overall, a big improvement over the original and I've been enjoying it for the last few years. On this one I had the volume at about 10:30 to achieve the 95dB average. There was a increase in dynamics too.

Third the SACD, as noted the bass is tighter, quicker and has slam! The sound is full, almost 3D in nature with a deeper, wider soundstage and with a wonderful decay to the notes. The detail is outstanding, I'm hearing things I haven't heard before. The vocals sound very natural, no strain or edge. I thought I heard a bit of glare the first time I listened, but not tonight. I think it's just an extension of the highs that I wasn't use to. I had to turn this one down to 9:00 and the dynamics are so good it was hard to keep it around 95dB. I turned it up one time to about 10:00 and was averaging 105+dB with no problem, it sounded great. This one is a winner.
