Hello,
I just picked this up this week and replaced my old Pioneer dv414.It was my first Dvd player and it still works great.
The dv47a is a awesome peice. It can play dvd-audio/SACD,and is a 12 bit pure cinema Progressive scan player. The video quality of this player I compared to the dv414 in interlaced(to make it fair).I could not believe the difference in color, edge detail, depth of the picture, how smooth the scenes went even during high movement. The audio was cleaner and more dynamic. My system never sounded like this.
The only thing I don't like about the Dv47a is built quality. It's not as tall as the dv38a nor does it have rosewood side panels(which I wish it had),and no copper chassis. No sealed door, but it run's quiet, the dv414 was a noisy player as you could here the disk spinning.
I hooked up ny my player with Transparent music link 1m interconnect's.(man that almost took out the bank)but these cables make a huge difference over my Monstercable m950i's.I used to use all Monstercable, but now I'm converting all to Transparent.
SACD is in one word KILLER,but not much software is on the market.I hope to see more this year.
DVD-AUDIO is almost as good, they have more software that I like, and with my system,it really sounds great.
I currently own...
Rt1000p's.........mains
Cs400i..............center
FX/500..............surround
RT35i's..............Surround back
PSW450............Sub
for multiroom music the fx/500's sound great, but I'm going to tryout the rt35i's as surround for SACD AND Dvd-Audio

It retail's for 1200.00,but it sell's everywhere for 999.99,which a steal for what this player can do.I love mine more and more everytime I use it.The built quality thing isn't that big of deal for me anymore as it perform's above my expectations.
We carry the Pioneer Elite vsx49tx and It is a killer receiver, nothing like what Pioneer was in the past. The amp's sound much more open and natural. It sound close or as good as the B&K avr307(which is/was the best sounding receiver on the market).I'm planning to upgrade my receiver to the Pioneer Elite vsx49tx,or the Denon avr5803,but i'm waiting to see what B&K comes out with this summer.I currently own the Denon avr3801,It's nice but I want a better sound piece.

both pioneer are ones to get, they will match better and have the same looks, i know they sound awesome together. on the sides where they use to have wood, you can get some rose wood and make & finnish your own sides, i did it before on a old kenwood receiver, i did it in zebra wood and it looked great, every one wonderd where did i get that custom receiver.

    well thanks, mantis
i hope you get yrs of injoyment out of that pioneer

funny you said that as I was thinking in the same light.I own the PDF19 Pioneer Elite 301 cd player which looks like your dvD player(from a distance you can't tell them apart),it has the rosewood down the sides and I love it.I also own the Pioneer Elite CLD-59 Laserdisc player and it doesn't have rosewood panels like my dv47a.(yes I still watch laserdisc). But I talked to the Pioneer Elite Rep and he said that they are getteing away fromt he rosewood as it add's to over all cost.I can live with that,But I might visit Hone Depot and make my own.
