i just recently bought some monitor 40 speakers which i use for front speakers (i have a small room) and a cs1 center to go on an onkyo tx-sr502, im also using monster cable speaker wire to wire them. anyways the problem is that i can hear a scratching or static noise sometimes if i play some bach violin symphony then i cant hear it, also i dont realy hear it on deep base its mostly on mid tones i hear it and its not all the time only sometimes. on fm and from the digital audio from my pc. dont know if this is normal or not but happens at the exact same time in a song i play on my pc. happens right before it goes to 3 seconds in and the tones are pretty consistant the whole way through 5 seconds in so its not like the tone just changes from high to low although their might be some change im not just noticing. i also dont know if it was like this when i first bought them its been about a week now i bought them on the 3/25 happens to my cs1 also. i havnt realy played them too loud and i dont realy think that all 3 of my speakers would blow at the same time, would they?

Hello,
Thanks for participating in the Forum discussion. Whenever there is a problem that is program specific, meaning it only happens when a certain source is being played and not with others, the most likely cause is the source. This would be especially true if it happened at a specific playback time.
The best way to determine where the problem lies is to be able to substitute another source, playing the same selection. Or bring the source to another audio system, whichever is easiest. In other words, if you connected your PC to another receiver and speakers and played the same selection and heard the same bad sound, that would determine the PC is the cause. Or, play the same file on another PC into the receiver/speakers you now have and didn't hear the bad sound, you could determine where the fault lies.

its not just the track on my pc that has the sound, its when im listening to fm raido, probly happens on am also but i dont listen to it. mostly only noticable when i hear the deeper tones of male voices. and could it be possible that i damaged all 3 speakers at once? i also dont have rear speakers hooked up at this time tryin to decide what ones to use cause i gotta mount them. forgot to mention also was using speakers on small setting even though i read in a speaker setup faq that for speakers with 2 cones that are 5 1/2 inches or more i should have set to large.

Hello,
If you are sure that it is not a source problem, then it is possible to have damaged the drivers in all three speakers. Use a small pillow to cover up the tweeter and one of the drivers in the Monitor 40. This will isolate the lower driver, if it sounds okay, move the pillow to cover the lower driver and listen to the upper driver. Do the same in the other speaker and the center channel. Once you have isolated which driver it is, remove them from the cabinet and send them to Polk Audio, 2550 Britannia Blvd., Suite A, San Diego, CA. 92154. Include a short note giving us your name, address and a copy of your sales receipt.

ah, i think i might go to my circuit city i bought them at and just let them test them. i think i got the warrenty on them so ill just see if i can let them replace the speakers. thanks for the replys. only reason being i dont realy feel like waiting for the new driver(s), and i dont wanna dissassemble the speaker and reasemble it i might mess something up. im not too inclined when it comes to that sort of thing.
