Watched it last night. It was very weird and kinda corny, IMO. The acting was very good, though. The animal beast thing was very well done, too. I'd say rent it only if you have absolutely nothing else to do.

So there actually is a monster in this one and not some stupid lame crap like somebody dressed up as one?

This is quickly becoming my favorite of his, watched it for the 3rd time last night, I love the fairytale world he's created with this one. In a few days my neighbor is coming over and we're going to watch it as she has not seen it yet as a bonus, she's smoke'n hot.

    Since you asked Macleod...

    SPOILER ALERT

There is a creature, not so much a "monster". But, there's also a scene with people dressed up.
    If...

So i'm watching Lady in the Water tonight. because everything on TV was a mega rerun.

When the lady in the water comes out and makes herself known..and thruout the rest of the movie all i can think to myself.

Hey! Wait a doggone minute.. this seems like another lady in the water from 1984 LOL Daryl Hannah in Splash !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

check pics below to see what i mean. same hair, same wearing only a man's shirt for most of the movie.. etc.

Oh yeah.. the movie was maybe a 1 star.. out of 5 for me.

This one really missed the mark with me. I am a big M. Night fan. I think he is one of the most talented in Hollywood today. Lady just did not have the magic/genius of his previous films. I thought The Village was his finest. Signs next. I think its downfall was that there were too few conflicts; man vs. god, man vs. self, etc... Everyone quickly believed with no room for doubt. And the main character, did not have enough internal struggel, based upon his history.

I can't disagree with your opinion on the movie as you perceived it, but I do disagree with the notion that Giamatti's character was lacking in internal struggle. The guy was a doctor whose wife and kids were hacked up by a burglar/murderer. Now he's a handyman at a run down apartment complex and appears to have a speech impediment.

As far as the movie itself. It worked for me, and I liked it. It was intended to not be even remotely 'real life' as it was purely a metaphorical story he told his children.

    **POSSIBLE SPOILER***

I actually liked that there wasn't same magnificent twist.

    I'm with you Demi...

I've had to defend liking this movie since I've seen it. It certainly is not a convential film and should not be viewed as such. I'm also glad M. Night finally abandoned his O. Henry tribute -- the ironic twists were becoming too tacked on.

    Wait for it....

    wait for it....

I still think Unbreakable is his best film to date. Throw your rotten fruit.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I think Sixth Sense was the best by far, although I like Unbreakable even though the twist was a little silly.

I thought Signs was awful. The premise of questioning God and all that was a excellent idea, but the movie itself ranged from dead boring to painfully overwrought to downright silly.

Haven't seen the Village because the plot seemed lousy. Haven't even read much about Lady in the Water yet.

    Signs was horrible and depressing.

Unbreakable was horrible, boring and depressing

The Village was horrible, effing STUPID and a little depressing

6th Sense was decent but still depressing.

Just saw this, and really liked it. It's a FAIRY TALE, so if you're not up for that, don't watch it. If you are, you should enjoy it. The one thing Shyamalan truly excels at is creating a mood / atmosphere in his films, and this is no exception.

I was also happy he actually told a story without a big twist though. I guess the twist was that there was no twist. Everything was as it seemed :)

bumpage. Yesterday I Went to Circuit City around lunch and bought all 5 of his movies (Village, Unbreakable, Signs, 6th Sense, & L.I.T.Water) - with the exception of his newest L.I.T.W., all of the movies are just $10.

I had never seen any of his movies with the exception of The Village, which I loved- i know i'm in the minority on this one but I don't care.

Put in 6th Sense first- liked it alot - the ending surprised me but in retrospect shouldn't have - B

Signs- this one was just ok- but the mood/atmosphere/cinematography were great. - C

Unbreakable- Didn't know it was about comics- considering i've never read one in my life i thought boring- but it was actually quite good. Acting carried this one more than anything. B

Lady In The Water- bout ready to watch it now.

Imo the Village was still the best- I don't know why- I just could relate to it. Although most hated it, I really dug the Puritan "Society is Evil" theme, as well as the anachronistic dialogue. watching it in widescreen is vastly superior to my friend's old P/S DVD copy.

Anyway, that's my take so far.. i think he's fantastic based on his originality and unorthodox filmmaking talents alone.

All shocking statements coming from you.... :D

Just teasing. Glad you enjoyed. I agree with his style being really the feature of his movies - even the ones I didn't like (Village, Signs) he did a great job with atmosphere and style, and they're worth watching just for that.

imagery and atmosphere/mood was great with Lady In The Water- but as a movie, not so much. C

    Village still reigns supreme imo.

Finally saw it yesterday. FrankZ summed it up for me. I guess I was just thinking it was going to be suspenseful or scary. It was more lackadaisical and goofy.
