    Terri,

Better you than me. I'll pour a shot in my belly button tonight in your honor.

Well, Bullwinkle would have been a perfect candidate for this test....too bad he's not around anymore.

Maybe Polkthug has a computer program, and can make some cool graphs for us to look at?

Maybe we can get an offical setup in a lab or something? Huhh, uh, huh huh, yeah.

Plenty of brain dead members here, just need to pull the Jedi mind trick on them to volunteer.

Sad for all those involved but for **** sake why on God's green earth did this get so much attention?

At least it won't be on every **** news website and on the front page of my morning papers anymore, I hope. Of course I'm sure the lawsuits between husband and family will start now.

Although I was reluctant to put it in that context, I also am glad it's over. If I had to look at that picture of her in the hospital bed one more time I think I'd go insane.

Gentlemen, I am going to share something very personal with all of you because it is very important.

On August 11, 2004 I found out that my older brother Tom 46 years old was in Mass General Hosp. ICU. He suffered complete organ failure due to a series of small heart attacks. They managed to save him however, my other brother & I are now living with the SAME exact situation Terri & her family have been living with for so many years. Tom’s higher brain functions are GONE & they are NOT coming back! He will live the rest of his life in a vegetative state!

There are even more immediate concerns than whether or not a feeding tube should be removed. Any of you who are single should proceed to do the following with the utmost urgency!

Tom did not leave a Health Care Proxy, nor a Power Of Attorney, nor a Will. As a result, we have applied for Guardianship for him. We filed the papers in November. We just TODAY were granted guardianship! 5 MONTHS LATER!

Without these documents, those who are left behind to get things straightened out are left in a very BAD position. Half of the information that we need to provide to everyone, we can’t get access to. Since he didn’t have another name on his bank account, I have been paying the cost for his rent & car loan out of MY pocket since we don’t have any legal right to act on his behalf. As you can see above, the laws of justice turn v e r y s l o w l y and it can get very expensive.

As for the feeding tube issue. Figure out what YOU want for yourself. Make sure you share that information with someone you trust who you know will respect your wishes. However if you have anyone in your immediate family who will object to YOUR wishes, GET A LIVING WILL! At least there will be something in writing from you to tell the courts what you want!

Make sure your spouse is in agreement with you since BY LAW they are the one who will have the final say. Which is what all of the courts in the land upheld!

Again for those of you who are single, that right will fall to your siblings/parents if your opinion differs from theirs, put it in writing, and make sure someone you trust will be willing to fight to carry out your wishes.

This goes far deeper than what anyone has heard on the TV, and the impact is absolutely devastating for ALL involved!

If I can convince one of you to get your affairs in order, I will be satisfied.

Ps. Tom leaves behind a sister, a brother and a son 10 yrs old!

Sorry to hear that Cathy. If nothing else good comes from this unfortunate matter, maybe people will become aware of the possibility of it happening to themselves or loved ones and will take actions as you've described to prevent a similar situation from reoccurring.
