We likes to party.

Hell yeah. My Dodd finally arrived today. Packed well enough I doubt UPS could've screwed it up if they tried. Looks to be in great shape. Hell, it even smells good. Came complete with the stock and an extra set of tubes. This is my first adventure into tube land, and seperates as well. With any luck, the Sunfire amp should be here on Friday, leading to a weekend of sitting on my **** and listening to everything I own.

How about some pics?! :D

Thanks Russ. Thanks to Mark too. Hey Mark, SRS and Dodd, does that qualify for a pants removal? :)

Seriously though, thanks to all who have had some input on this latest adventure. Thanks to Al for exposing me to good old school Polk sound.

I've been reading the reviews in the cable shootout a lot lately. The Dodd and Sunfire are going to be getting power cords from Signal for sure. Probably going to place an order with them later today for some power cords and ICs as well.

Big old herking review to come sometime next week.

Be careful, you'll have the anti-cable crowd telling you all tubes sound the same too.

You should already be pantless, and frolicing.

    Cheers,
    Russ

I'm sure that there are plenty of people looking at that little pre and wondering how it can work worth a darn. I thought the same thing when I got my tiny little Dared pre, I was very pleasantly surprised though. Looking forward to a lengthy review.

It's a very simple circuit (Melos based), with a dead-quiet power supply. Simplicity can be a blessing. No bells and whistles, lights and buzzers - all business in this one.

    Cheers,
    Russ

I've been keeping a close eye on Audiogon, and occaisonally the bay, for close to three months now.

This was the first Dodd anything I saw on the 'gon and I snagged it within hours of being posted. I could be wrong, but I don't think this pre will be a frequent flyer on the used circuit.

The amp should be here Friday. ICs and power cords from Signal cable have been ordered and are scheduled to arrive sometime in early April. I have some ICs to get me by until then.

Can't wait to hear your impressions! I've been wanting to wander over to the tube side for a while but with my new line arrays, that MUST be bi-amped (active x-over), I'm not sure I can afford to. Any cheap, killer tubes that will do them justice? They're 94db/1w with BSC circuit.

Man what can I say about the Dodd that has not already been done! Hell, just repeat everybody, great unit, very solid build, well, one thing, if you ever need help with the unit, when you call, you talk to Gary, he built it, knows it inside out backwards and any other way. He will take care of anything that you want done, mine has a very cool A/V switch that allows for another input device.

Doro also turned me on to these a number of months ago which is why he is HARDCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For a measly 500 beans this thing performs better or as well as those costing three times that.

I talked with Gary yesterday and he appreciates the Club Polk members who have bought his products. This a great way to get into tubes with a brand new product, and if you are lucky enough to get one off the Gon, so much the better. The stock tubes sound pretty friggen terrific to me.

I'm afraid that I may not be able to fully give just my impressions of the Dodd. When the Dodd goes in the rig, so does a new amp and new cables. Theres going to be a lot new to interpret. If I get the time though I have a HK stereo receiver with preouts that I could use for comparison. We'll see.

So, the guy that sold it to me emailed me, and apparently I don't have the stock tubes. He sent it with a pair of Jolida tubes and a pair of Amperex Bugle tubes. Forgive my tube noobishness, but I was looking at the tubestore.com last night, and well, are these Amperex expensive assed tubes?

Amperex Bugle Boy, Mullard, and Telefunken are considered by some people to be the best of the best. there are others of course.. depending on how your want your rig to sound.

Just be VERY careful handling them. The silk-screen lettering / logos can come off with just a touch from your fingers.

I don't know what Jolida stock tubes are. Amperex are Holland-made, old stock.

    Russ
