Denon AVR-4800

I've been looking to get some power behind my RTI10's.
A used Denon AVR-4800 is available at a reasonable price.
Is this going to be a good long term investment, or should I hold out for the good stuff(like amp/pre-amp). I'm also a little worried about the many reviews complaining of problems. Seems many
mainstream AVRs had lots of problems in 2000/2001, such as
Denon, H/k, Onkyo and others. I would like to switch over to
LSI9's sometime in the future. Will the Denon do an ok job with
4-ohm loads?

The Denon avrf4800 was a fine receiver. When you load it up with 4 ohm speakers , what happens is it looses it's dynamic range. It will hold the load but the dynamics are greatly suffered.
I suggest you getr something else if your planning on Lsi's down the road. Rotel or B&K reveivers are where you want to be.
As far as for the rti's, the Denon will serve them well.Dan

Thanks for the input I'm still thinking about the long-term.
I wish I had the cash for the B&K for sale in the flea market.
Tax time is killing me(they hooked me for $6k!!!).
I have been looking over Ebay for repairable stuff.
I may have to wait for the right deal on a Rotel or NAD."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
Wow! I just pulled my head out of my ****. The nice B&k for sale was yours! That was DEFINATELY a nice unit."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others.
