I've wondered about this on numerous occassions, but how do you guys afford all of this audio gear?

A. are you a rich ****?

B. do you max out your credit cards?

C. do you save up cash each week until you can buy another component?

D. do you have a second job that feeds your passion for pursuing audio nirvana?

E. do you steal it?

F. do you neglect other aspects of your life such as driving a decent car, dating a better class of women, or buying cheap booze?

G. do you have a sugar mama?

H. are you just plain nuts?

Tell me. I wanna know.

I mostly save my money, although some of the purchases come from the "household account" such as the speakers my wife wanted, DVD player, etc. But everything else I have to save for.

BTW, many of you guys are lying. I'm thinkin' rich **** for most of you.

Save, save, save, and wait for my tax return at the end of the year. I usually buy gear that's on clearance or on sale as an "open box" item. That way I can get the salesguy to knock off a little extra. I only paid $400 for my HK 330, with all of the accessories, and no scratches. It was CC's demo model, so I got a pretty damn good deal.

    A. I'm not rich but I do well for myself.

    B. No. But I do however use em from time to time when I can't wait anymore.

    C. Somewhat. I keep most of my money in the bank. I pay my bills and I keep an eye on whats left and decide the best thing to do with it.

D.No. I work enough at my only job.

    E. No

    F. Never, if anything I spend to much money and live right to my means.

    G. I wish. She works but doesn't make a ton of dough. She does it for adult conversation(we have 2 kids).

    H. Completely. I dream about audio gear and my other hobbies more then anything else. For some reason or another my toys are very Important to me. Nuts ma not be strong enough. I probably need professional help.

Not hardly, the military isn't known for the great pay.

    B. do you max out your credit cards?

We haven't carried a credit card balance from one month to another in over six years.

    C. do you save up cash each week until you can buy another component?

No, I try to strike a balance between what I want and what I can afford.

    D. do you have a second job that feeds your passion for pursuing audio nirvana?

Nope, if your job doesn't support you in the lifestyle that you currently lead either you need a different lifestyle or a different job.

    E. do you steal it?

    Not hardly

    F. do you neglect other aspects of your life such as driving a decent car, dating a better class of women, or buying cheap booze?

Not in my mind. I don't live to impress anyone. I'm quite content with what I have.

    G. do you have a sugar mama?
I wish, the lovely Wendi is pretty savvy with the beads and shells.

    H. are you just plain nuts?

    Rumor has it.

The thing is, if you have to have the new car smell, this hobby like any other, can be expensive. However, if you live within your means and do your homework, you can put together great rigs for a lot less money than you think. The key is patience

I bought my HT setup for cash using my inheritance from my Dad after he died. :(

He was always buying cool audio stuff and showing me how it worked. Because of that experience I am the head of audio at our church. We also made a donation in his name for a sound renovation project: 32 channel mixer, amps, powered mixer, and monitor speakers for the musicians.

I"m with faster100, i too can't afford to hoard gear. Most everything i own audio wise is used in one place or another.

I just find it disheartening to see a good piece of gear sit unused. it's a shame sometimes to even think that. So whenever i buy something.. it's already got a place for where it will be used.

I probably make less than many people here and happen to live in an expensive area. There are several ways I keep my system going.

    1. I have no credit card debts. (MOST IMPORTANT!)

    2. Consider audio equipment a necessity. (Crazy)
    3. One day a week part time job. (Too lazy to quit)

    4. I don't spend $100 a month for a cell phone
    5. I don't spend $60 a month for cable or satelite
    6. I don't spend $17 a month for OnStar
    7. I don't spend $40 a month for internet services

    8. I don't spend any dollars on service agreements
    9. I purchase as much as possible on-line
    10. I pay less than 1/2 value for used vehicles
    11. I never pay for any sort of repair on anything.
    12. I'm willing to pay more if the discount is greater.

*note* also dipped way into saving account...wife not amused..

He taught me at a very young age the love and appreciation of music , and for that I am truely greatful....

He loved to play music (vibes) and listen to the tube amps he used to build (heath kits and others) along with the speakers he made (that had more sand than the beach in them)

I hope everybody on this forum teaches , shares and exspands your childrens minds and hearts with the love of music everyday.

I work my **** off. Last week I worked 72 hours but only get paid a 40 hour salary. Not the norm (thankfully) but part of being a salaried employee. Also been on call 24 / 7 for the last 3 years. Get paged on vacation even:(

As far as having multiple rigs and the cost, I see my neighbor's 30K bass boat and know that I don't have that much invested in audio. Everyone has their priorities.
