That's Manufacturer's SUGGESTED Retail Price. Why not wait until it hits shelves to see how much it will actually run you? There is a good chance that it will be less than $1K.

This subwoofer had best be hardcore to redeem itself from the current mediocre lineup.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I do not disagree. Polk can build a pretty snazzy car sub that'll rattle your fillings loose but for some reason, they neglect the home line-up and end up giving away PSW202's and even then they can't get rid of them.

Yeah, but take 5 psw202's, stick one under each channel, set everything to "large"... hello 5.5!

    .....OK maybe not.
yep, the 202 sucks. I got two free ones and dumped one on my brother and the other on a friend.

Still, I'm pretty happy with the LSiW- which is why I haven't sent it back just yet. Since I don't have to worry about voiding any warranties, I'll crack it open and take lots of pictures for the board before I ship it off.

looks like everything is identical to the LSiW except the model number and they changed out the amps.

it's a gorgeous sub, I am looking forward for the review. I wonder what kind of driver/woof does it use? and with Bash amp to it, I supposed it will compete with SVS head to head?
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I don't think the spec's will come close to matching a SVS on the low end frequencies It is a good looking thing though and I would probably rather have one of these instead of my 505 if I could keep it from overpowering my system.
    Front: RTi70
    Center: CSi40
    Rear: RTi28
    Sub: PSW505
    AVR: Onkyo TX-SR600

If it is similar to the LSiW, that wee beasty hit 20Hz which is pretty deep and right where a sub SHOULD be digging down to.

Infact, the specs posted in the product catalog on line state that it runs from 20Hz to 160Hz in it's frequency response range.

For what is runs for, thats not a big feat, IMO...

SVS is hitting 20-18hz for 400 bucks...

But it is good to see a Polk sub hitting down to 20hz...

That wasn't the point. The point was that jimed1 said "I don't think the spec's will come close to matching a SVS on the low end frequencies..." and it very clearly does. Whether that is real world or not remains to be seen but the specs do match up pretty well with the SVS subs.

Polk almost always posts a higher "MSRP" than what the regular price is in-store. The LSiW had the same "MSRP."

    As per page specs:

    Lower -3dB Limit 30Hz

Alot of subs, or speakers for that matter, will output 20Hz. The level may be down -20dB at that frequency, but it will still output the frequency. When the frequency is down that level, you may not be able to hear, or in this instance, feel the 20Hz frequency.

    :(

So, Polk head us when we said we wanted a sub that went all the way down to 20hz. But they couldn't design one that ACTUALLY went down to 20hz.

Yeah, tell that to the PB2+ or PB2 Ultra...

Because thats what price range that sub is in!

Thats a real lame reason if you ask me...bleh

and what kind would that be?

Plus, I've always thought subs that go TO low (like that far below 20) lose their sound quality.

Yep, and usually anything below 30hz is difficult to hear for most. That is the point where you mostly feel it instead of hear it, which is something that is often saught after for.... home theater. I think that's what ganzo is building his sub for.

    Or maybe he's just a basshead. ;)

22-20hz is a good tuning point, its as low as you will ever need to go, 30hz...now thats way to high...my speakers alone hit down to 30hz ;)

Nope, loosing sound quality has little to do with lower limit. Can't say that my two subs (SVS PCU, 16Hz tuning) loose their sound quality and the -3 dB range is 14 - 15Hz in room. In fact, I would not buy any subs I have heard in local stores over the PCUs.

and then, there were SVS, Velo, Sunfire.....

I am with you, I would love to have one for its look and match.

Why can Polk subcontract their subs to others, who are more capable (read: specialised) of producing a better sounding subs?

Yeah man thats what I'm talking about. Let Velodyne make em, pay the **** to do it and release a nice DD cloan sub for Polk??? I'd rather that then wait over a year for a sub.
