Ignorant guy who needs some help -- pretty please?

As a preface, I have searched past threats in order to find an answer to this question as I know people hate repeating themselves.

I recently bought a pair of 1889 Monitor 11t from a garage sale for 60 bucks. They look pretty good but there's something wrong with the sound. A tweeter is not working at all, so I'm assuming I just have to replace that (SL 2000).

My question is about one of the drivers. One of them sounds weak and muffled. I assume this is because it is blown. But here's what makes me wonder it may be something else.

There are two drivers per speaker. When only one is hooked up, and the muffled one disconnected the one hooked up sounds stronger. When I connect the muffled one, it takes some power away from the stronger one. The drivers in the other tower don't seem to do this to each other.

Should I just assume that the way the OTHER speaker is being affected is because the muffled speaker is bad? Or is this indicitive of some greater systemic problem, perhaps around the input are or something?

As a side note, it's amazing how good these things sound even with 2 parts not working right. I have a feeling that, even if I have to put is some money to repair them, they were worth the 60 bucks.

First thing I would check is if the speaker in question is wired correctly. Compare the wiring in the good speaker to the bad one.
