I was visiting my speaker repair shop looking for some replacement parts. I stumbled across a pair of Advent 5002 c.1982,near mint condition. While I've been looking for some Monitor 7 or 10's for my Sansui 2000a receiver these were too good to pass up. Seems like vintage Polk prices are on the rise and being in Denver shipping usually kills me. Anyway the Advents sound great. I have been listening to alot of McCoy Tyner and Keith Jarrett rediscovering how nice it is to sit and listen on a nice 2 channel system. The wife says if I don't curb my spending I can't retire in 5 years as now planned. This is a problem as I really need more speakers! Please help. I am now taking contributions. Please pm me if you have anything to spare. It would help if you could also pay for shipping. Thanks in advance for keeping my retirement on schedule and my wife from killing me.

    waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

My wife tries her very best to convince me that what I own is all I ever need and how good it is......... A bunch of crap. I upgrade alot and this time around I didn't. I have owned the same damn receiver for over 2 years now and same with the speakers. They all gotta get out and I need NEW!!! SHE feels completely different about it.

My wife is always pissed at me when I'm upgrading then she gets over it. You would think she would learn by now that this is what I do and I'm not going to change....

Retirement???? Yeah I have a 401k and mutual funds , money in the bank and a plan , but I don't allow that to get in the way of audio and video happiness.....

Hell I want to run right out now and upgrade.......I can;t take the money to the grave with me so...

I've found that the secret is save up a little nest egg and then not let the little lady know what the price of the hardware is. She was mortified to (eventually) find out what I spent on OUR new B&K 507 Series 2, but her opinion mellows every time we turn that bad boy on...

My wife gets that "what the heck do you do now" look every once in a while, but then I politely point her in the direction of her scrapbook room and she quickly quiets. She has more into that then I do my audio. Point is, make sure they have a hobbie too and they really can't say much:eek: At least one hopes

I've found that if you try to include your wife in your hobby that she will be a *little* more understanding. I also take the time to educate her on what things cost new vs. what I'm paying for them. Now, were I dropping a few grand on new gear, damn right, that stuff would be permanent and I can't blame her. The lovely Wendi generally isn't thrilled with new gear coming in, however, she has an appreciation for it and it is (other than golf) pretty much my only hobby so she goes along with it.

Bottom line is I've found that my wife only really complains about things when she feels that my hobby take priority over her.

DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DONK!

That was me breaking the "damn right" bell!

Troy said it 100% right there.

The only thing that would stand in the way of that is having a wife who, no matter how hard you try, is totally uninterested in your hobbies.

I get beat up for blowing money on stereo gear but honestly, right now I'm just trying to complete my HT rig and keep it looking acceptable. It will, eventually, blend in with the decor and the smallest speakers will be my KLH 22's. She is actually starting to enjoy it and when I finally get the rear stage completed with the speaker stands that I need, it will be super snazzy!

I'm close to completion though. I need stands, an amp for the subwoofer and a better antenna for the tuner. I have a bedroom rig consisting of a pair of KLH 20's, an NAD amp, a Yammie powered sub and I still need a pre-amp/tuner w/remote and I think I'm gonna grab a ViewSonic 20 inch LCD TV.

Oh, one cool thing that won WAF points was the HT reciever that I bought I got for free. It's an Onkyo TX-SR502S. I paid something like $30-45 for shipping. I can't remember exactly right now but all I can say is that American Express Rewards points can really buy you some snazzy stuff!

Over the past 30 years me and my little love blossom have changed. She does not have a HAF and I do not have a WAF. Dang woman dropped eight Franklins on pots and pans last month. I just tell her how cool they are, I am also not allowed to use them (hehe like that bothers me).

All said I really like not having "ask" or bicker over my little hobby. I wish she were more interested in it but she is not and does not look like that is going to change, but I will keep trying. She does get a kick about how excited I can get over a friggen piece of wire.

my g/f just understands I have a sickness. Seeing she understands it, she really can't say much. Plus, it's not like I'm forgetting to pay the bills in order to buy speaker wire or something... I just save up all my extra money for such.
