THX, yes or no & Rotel or Adcom?

I’m looking to use my Yamaha HTR-5250 receiver as a pre-amp and picking up a separate 5 X 100W for HT and listening to stereo music. I’m looking at used amps in the $500.00 to $600.00 range. The Rotel RB-985 is an option that looks like it would do the trick but I’m not sure about the THX certification. When an amp is THX certified does is do anything to change the source material? What I’m getting at is, I don’t want to distort the source material with some cheap effects. I just want to amplify the source and send that signal to my speakers.

My second question is how do you think the Rotel RB-985 compares to a Adcom GFA7400 for both HT and listing to stereo music off the front mains? Both amps can be had for the same money.

all it does is tell he general public that it's a good product by THX standards.

Rotel and Adcom make really good amps for the money. I like both companies.

Bottom line it Dan, which do you like better between the 2 if you had to make the choice?

Rotel.

I feel they sound better , cost is very close and sex appeal they win hands down.

But I still like a good Adcom. They are very powerful and clean sounding.

I feel a certain degree of brand loyalty to Adcom based on the fact that I’ve owned a GFA555II (2 X 200W) for 14 years and love the thing. But it’s hard to ignore the positive reviews on

Everything I read seems to point to the fact that the Rotel is a smoother sounding amp than the Adcom. I think your right about Adcom if your looking for more raw power. But in my old age I think melow is what I'm looking for.

Rotel is a more laid back amp...

Adcom is more forwards, move out of the way sound...

All depends on ur taste...
