Ps Audio Power Port.

I Installed it this morning and I just finished up listening to it after an all day break in.

I have a 20amp deadicated outlet at my gear location. I removed the standard outlet and replaced it with a Ps Audio power port. The outlet is suppost to bring a new level of sonic clarity. I don't think it did all that but it did do something.I listened to the factory outlet after I re Installed it. I had to let the Ps Audio outlet run allday before I could demo it. Switching back and forth was out of the question as I got beat running up and down the basement stairs turning off and on the breaker. After 2 swaps I gave up. But in all I got a good Idea if it made any kind of sonic difference.

What I used

B&K AVR307
Polk LSI 15's
Kimber Kable 8tc 8tc double run shotgun bi wires.
Pioneer Elite DV47a
Kimber Kable Hero Interconnects
Kimber Pk10 Power cords for both receiver and DVD player
Ps Audio power Port with power cords plugged directly.
Music was Lorenna McKennitt and Norah Jones.

So I sat there and listened to the stock outlet. Sounded effin great as my system usually does. I Removed all video and power cords for a clean 2 channel demo. I really didn't think I needed it but hell the power cords I bought from Kimber Kable made a nice difference in overall sound quality and dynamics so **** I bought the Ps Audio outlet. I re Installed the Ps audio outlet and at first it sounded exactly the same. I was having trouble finding any difference. At this point I figured I bought a cool looking decor outlet able to run 20 amps.It has the Ps Audio symbol on it so the COOL factor is there but I don't hear anything different. I sat though a few songs and put the old one back in. Up and down the damn stairs I went and sat there again and listened. Ok now something is different. The sound is now slighty muffled. Ever so slighty but I could tell a tone in her voice that shadowed the air.Ok so there was the difference. Then I turned up the volume to reference and then I could hear it more. It was annoying. So I reinstalled the Ps Audio outlet up and down the damn stairs again and that was it for that. I didn't want to strip out the high voltage box in the wall as it would be a **** to replace.I would have to go with a Drywall mounted box after that. Well anyway the overtone I will call it was gone.Clear and crystal sound was back. I didn't realize the tone untill I installed and re Installed the outlets.

For the money it's a very small gain. But a gain is a gain and I'm all about it.WOW factor is only there if you go lok at it. O it's cool lookin. Is it worth the money and time spend??? Well my system sound slighty better then it did yesterday so It's worth it. There not alot of money . I know a Ps audio dealer so I got a good deal on it.

Lookin good, Dan! thanks for doing the hard-work of auditioning it. I did mine a couple years ago solely based on faith and uncle Jesse's recommendation ;)
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Last night I reinstalled all video in my system and watched a few scenes of DVD's. For theater setup I thought it sounded great. I think without putting in the other outlet , my video is slighty more crisp. I can't say without changing out the outlet again for sure(which I 'm tired of doing) but my video looks the best it ever did.

It's been a long time since I upgraded anything. I got into HDTV a few months back due to the fact my son dropped kicked my Sony XBR 36 inch non HD tv and I didn't see any reason to repair it.

I have a long road of upgrading ahead of me and it's exciting. This is one very small step towards a new goal.

Great review Dan! I’m also a believer in AC outlets. I use Wattgate 381 outlets in my main system & have noticed a difference after letting the system run for a few days & listening again. I wasn’t able to do a a/b test with the standard to the wattgate outlet, but after a few weeks of playing I notice the HDTV & DVD picture has gotten cleaner & more vibrant, playing 2 ch XRCD’s Patricia Barber Companion, XRCD24 Super analog sound of the three blind mice recordings were more lush & detailed. I have replaced the standard outlets at our shop with FIM outlets, after a day of constant playing the highs are cleaner & the mids are smoother. As the week went by the improvement was more noticeable, I was told that outlets could take months to fully break in. All of the power cords used are Kinber PK10 w/audio grade IEC & Plug ends, which also made a noticeable difference. Another inexpensive upgrade I did was replace the 12-2 romex wire with dual 10-2 to each dedicated outlet (2 runs)& replace the 20 amp breakers to a 30 amp. Ultimate electricity would be a dedicated 100+ amp sub panel having 30amp breaker & using stranded #10 wire, Four Hot, Four Neutral, & One Ground all stranded #10 wire to each outlet (9 wires to each outlet) & make sure not to use any wire with black insulation. I have friends that have installed what we call the ultimate electricity & wow a definite large improvement in both picture & sound.

Nice writeup Dan. Thanks for sharing and doing all the swaps back and forth. That must have been a pain to do.

I'm running out of things to do with my stuff (pretty happy and content) and this looks like a nice and easy weekend project. Even if it is a minimal gain it is a gain and the sum of the parts is what matters.

    pjdami,

It's worth it. Mine may not be all the way broken in but I could hear a difference.

I was watching HDTV last night and I believe my picture quality is at the top of it's game. I noticed a clearer picture.

    Go for it,

It's a nominal investment for potential improvement, why not. Glad to hear you are enjoying it.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
