Per the owner's manual it said to hold the "auto + pcm" button then power the unit on with the power button on the reciever. We I've tried every combination and power button won't response with those two buttons pressed. Owner manual also said that the power button is the type that's supposed to pop in and out. In for standby and out for complete shutdown. However this is not true for this reciever. COnfirmed with my cousin that his 3300 does not do this either.... I'm trying to reset the unit to default so I can set everything up from scratch.

yah it took me awhile to find their number. When I finallly found it, it looks like they're trying to hide it, located way on the bottom in a small line and it says no where about tech support but I called anyways and found them.

    From the manual:

    1. Switch off the unit and remove the AC cord from the outlet.

    2. Hold the Pure Direct and Zone 2 buttons and plug the AC cord into the wall.

    3. Check that the entire display is flashing with an interval of about 1 second, and release your fingers from the 2 buttons.

    Hope this works for you.

Pure direct? hmm step 1 and 2 are different but step 3 appears to be the same.

The power button on my 3802 goes in for standby and out for off.
I leave it in standby all the time.So yours should do the same.

No matter how it's configured now , you can change it the way you want.

If the digital inputs aren't assigned correctly, write downwhere you connected things and assign them.

There is no need to reset the receiver. You can change things as you go threw the setup.

You you are not sure how to set it up correctly , I can guide you through every step.

THanks for all the offers for sure I'll be PM some of you guys once I start to put things together I'm waiting for a new av stand before I know how high I'll be mounting my new plasma and put all the component together. I may have to get ride of the RTi100 due to the size of the plasma and go bookshelf.... maybe rti6

back to the problem. The instruction on the 3801 is correct must be unplugged.... things are reset and here's what I found about this unit.

Bass and treble does not do anything to the center channel
in 5 channel stereo center channel lows get blocked. But in Wide and Neo6 mod the center gets full range but regardless in which mod the center channels seems to have fixed setting as far as bass and treble... THis is my first Denon unit and that doesn't seem normal. Perhaps I'm the abnormal one I dunno. :D

    Ok here's the update...

After much playing around with this unit I've figured the basic functionality of each surround modes etc.... At the moment my speakers are just thrown all over the room mix and match but at least i got 5 speakers hooked up. Even at that I already like it over the HK. My mid bass that I never notice from the RTi100 is there now all of a sudden? Must be that additional 25 watts. There are a few digital processing feature that the HK didn't have like Neo6 mode for which is lovely. Even though I can't use the OSD with the component output it's still cool since I have an option to use the denon as a switching unit.

    Bottom line..... money well spent

I used to be a hardcore HK fan, and have since switched over to Denon.

Having said that, I can say with all confidence that anything you're hearing with the Denon over the HK isn't due to the extra 25 watts...

The 100 watts on the Denon are easily matched by Hk's 75. HK amps are higher current and more conservatively rated than the Denon units.

You're likely hearing the extra 'stuff' becuase of the processing capabilities of the Denon. Denons have great preamp sections (some like myself even use them solely for a processor/preamp with an external amp.

it doesn't matter with way, as long as you enjoy the sound, just wanted to help educate a bit...

That may be it as well... maybe I should get a higher model HK model to compare?

getting a higher model HK will only make a difference if the processor section is different...I don't know how they build their receivers, if they use the same processor for all and just change the amps or what...

I'd be curious to hear you findings if you go that route...

I switched from an HK to a Denon and haven't looked back. I much prefer Denon.

If you can always hook up the On Screen Display to the composite in on your tv.
