are there such amps?

Is there such a thing as an amp that will output numerous stereo signals? The idea is to get the same music in stereo to numerous rooms. Does not have to be high quality sound but I dont want to pay $100 an amp for seven rooms.

With one input and multiple outputs on an amp - I don't think so. (I could be wrong but I dont thing most amps do that) You could get an multi-channel amp (like 8 channels lets say) and run 4 left and 4 right signals then run your speaker outputs from there.

You would have to get a junction box of some kind (or a bunch of y cables) to split the signal out.

It can be done - I wouldn't swear to the fidelity of it though... (multiple splits of the source and potentially VERY long speaker runs)

Good luck and I am sure others will have inputs.

EDIT - now that I think of it, there are some amps with in/out jacks to allow for bi-amping. that would work for you. Unfortunately the only amp I know of off the top of my head that does that is Sunfire. (great amp, but pretty pricey for your application.)

The idea here is to use some pretty cheap speakers and run at low volume. You know backround music. What do they do in a dentist's office?

Right sunfire is WAY over my limit. Sound quality in this situation is my LAST priority. Cost is #1.

Have you thought about trying to wire into an intercom system? (like for home intercoms)

    Just a thought.....

    eaadams,
You want music around the house on the cheap correct?

Tell me about your surent system and I'll elp you build a multiroom system off of it.

There are many ways to get it done. If you have a 2 zone receiver now, we will build off the amps driving the 2nd zone with a speaker selector box. I will help you configure everything and get you up and runing correctly.

Actually there are several amps that'll do exactly what you're talking about and are built specifically for multiroom home amplification, but not cheap... a niles 1230 or niles 1260 is probably the cheapest way to do it right- you can pick a 1230 up on ebay for $600. That will put 30 watts into 12 speakers (360 watts total). Each speaker you can select either to play the left input, the right input, both (mono), or an input specific to that speaker. Pretty sexy.

Plan B: use an intercom-type approach, like someone above suggested. I won't go into details, but just google "70 volt amplification" for tons of info... not very high quality, but it'll do the trick.

Plan C: Buy an old adcom 555 on ebay for $250-$350 and wire it serial-parallel. To simplify things we're going to do this with 16 speakers total, 8 speakers on each channel (rather than 7) and assume the speakers are 8 ohm. So. take the 8 speakers for the left channel and divide them out into four pairs and wire the negative on one to the positive on the other. Then twist all the positive wires together and all the negatives together and hook them to the Left channel red & black terminals on the amp like this:

    (Red)&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp(black)

Repeat for the right channel. The impedence of this circuit will be 4 ohms. The Adcom 555 will put 325 watts per channel into 4 ohms, so each speaker gets about 40 watts. Not sexy, but pretty slick.

Stick around here long enough and we will talk you into different systems for every room in the house. :D

You could always wire the speakers in a series/parallel configuration (to keep impedence around 4 to 8 ohms) and run with any single amp.

    Hi,
My denon avr-1082 has a multiroom output if you use 5.1 surround instead of 7.1. I can have one source in the main listening area and a different source in the other area. It works with a line level or speaker level out. It works for what I need and it came with the reciever. ;)
