Either of you guys wouldn't happen to have the correction factors for using the Radio Shack SPL meter would you?

Have you tried WinISD? They have a Sine Wave generator built in, you can make sweeps from 10 to what you wish, fast slow, with white noise.

You can get the correction factors here, look towards the bottom. There are also lots of other good stuff there.

Thanks for the quick help guys. Here's the graph I just made but I don't really know what it's telling me. Is it decent, or do I have a lot of work ahead of me?

It looks like you have it set a little hot, but all in all doesn't look bad. With a decent PEQ it would at least be very correctable. (no major dips to contend with) You could try some different placement options, but since it is so correctable, I would check into a BFD or other PEQ fix things.

Then again, if you are happy with how it sounds, stop taking measurments and just sit back and enjoy it. :)

    Michael

Edit - fogot, check into changing the phase as well. (if you do not have a setting for this, just hook the speaker wires up backwards and run the test again)

I have them all labeled and everything...

    Codey,

Where is the crossover and are there any other speakers playing during this test?

Yeah I know it's a little hot, I was showing off the LOTR ring drop scene for my brother and forgot to turn it back down. After I play with the phase and am finished messing around I'll recalibrate it.

I had the crossover set to 150hz , but I stopped running tones a 125hz. There weren't any other speaker on for the test.

Turn on the speakers and reset the crossover again and try it again, should have ALOT better results...

That is good. This gives us an idea of the room faults. We both have similar subs and rooms. I highly recommend picking up a BFD to tame that curve.

Here is a sample, my curve look nothing like this anymore (I change it like once a month) but it gives you an idea. I was going for a house curve. I had to turn the gain up but 250w is plenty for a big Tempest.

I'll turn on the speakers and run it again, I just wanted to see how bad the room was and whether I should move to a house with better acoustics. ;)

I was just looking at the BFDs, do they come in version that's not butt ugly? Do you think it would be a worth while investment in my case?

Nope - butt ugly but cheap and effective. thats what you get.

And yes - it would do wonders for you.

Maybe I could just put it in a paper bag or something.

How do they hook up, is it just the sub out that comes in and goes out to the sub?

yep. It is a stereo piece of equipment and has xlr or 1/4" jacks.

I got 2 1/4" to rca adapters at Guitar center (about $5.00 I think).
I went sub out (on the avr) to left in (on the bfd) then got another cable and went from left out (on the bfd) to sub in (at the sub).

Thats all you need. 2 1/4" to rca adapters and one additional sub cable (assuming you have one that works now.)
