Powering the LSi9's...Poll

Thought I'd throw out a poll to see what you guys would do. I noticed that the LSi9's show the amplifier rating should be between 20-200w. I was originally going to go with the Sunfire Ultimate Receiver (getting an insane price on a demo unit and it's damned sexy ), but that would put 400w/ch at 4 ohms. So, would you go ahead and run that knowing that 400w of clean power shouldn't do any damage (but I do listen to pretty high volumes!) or would you go with say a Denon 3805 to use as a pre/pro and get a multi channel amp to run the speakers. For now, I'm only going to run a 3.1 system because I don't have placement potential for rears/sides but hopefully come summer time, I'll be in a new place that DOES allow 5.1/7.1. So... Sunfire vs. Denon + amp. If you choose the Denon/amp combo, what would you do for amps? Outlaw 200 mono's for the three and worry about the other 2-4 channels when I actually need them or go ahead and find a 5-7ch. amp that'll be well worth it? I really couldn't go much over 800-1000 for a seperate amp, that'd be the only catch. Let's see what everyone says. Also, if you suggest the amp setup, what do you recommend and why?

Also check out Rotel rsx1068 and rsx1056. Both well under the asking price of the Sunfire and they both sound incredible.
B&K also makes one hell of a receiver that would drive your speakers extremely well. I use B&K myself and love the way it sounds.
Good luck I voted for the Sunfire. The avr3805 can and will drive them fine But I don't care for the way it sounds. I'm also not a fan of buying a receiver to be a preamp. If you want seperates then buy the matching preamp to the amps.

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
For the kind of money your looking at spending I'd dump the receiver option and get seperates. Look at it this way, paying full price for a receiver and only using half of it's capabilities is a waste of money that could be used elsewhere in your system.
Before you finalize your system, checkout the Outlaw 950/7100 combo. 30 day money back no questions asked return policy makes it a smart move. -
Well, I can get the Sunfire at an amazing price so that's why I'm looking into it as a receiver of choice. Otherwise, I wouldn't spend that much on just a receiver. But I need a pre/pro that does comp. video switching and has 3 in, 1 out. Upconvergence is a huge + as well but definitely not needed. I'll just tell the g/f that we can't use her VCR on that TV. Darn.Originally posted by Frank Z

If you can get the carver for less than the price of a decent pre (or the 3805) and a 5 channel amp, I would say go for it.
I am running my lsi-7's (and lsiC)with 500 watts and have not had any problems.
MichaelMains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms) -
Buy the Sunfire, sell it to me, proceed with the Denon + amp.

I'm pretty sure the Sunfire would equal most decent pre-pro's. Offer me a Sunfire vs Denon 580x, and I'll take the Carver product as it is more focused on sound than bells and whistles.
I might think that the Sunfire reciever is atleast as good as most pre-pro's out there and I wouldn't hesitate to try one out. I will voice out and say the sunfire the best reciever out there.
