Contact Ken Swauger at Polk, ask him those questions for the straight answer.

    There is no revision.

There is a slight change between the CS400 tweeter and the CS400i.

Polk stopped making the original Tri-Lam and now are sending out the Silk from the line after it for it's replacement. To me, this is a down-grade and if it is indeed using the Silk - I would stay away from it.

    Hey Sid,

Just curious... why do you consider the silk tweeter a downgrade from the Tri-lam?

I always thought the reverse was true.

Come on trey, everyone knows you are totally biased when it comes to certain models of anything.

To say the rti70 is horrible is outlandish.. and yes i too have listened to the first RT line.. rt55i, cs245i, and alot of the rti line.. I like both, but don't think it was much different from each other.. Now i'll bet polks first runs were better in some respects, a bookshelf compared to a tower is apples and oranges..

    BS?

totally different, larger cabinet.. in some cases larger drivers, the tweeter is higher even if the bookshelf was on a stand in most cases... UMM its always been apparent you hated the RTI line but the constant, RTI is crap, RT rein supreme crap is opinion only... not facts, and tireing

That's all.. I'm not gonna fight about it..

Actually, I believe it to be an odd comparison also. I wouldn't really call it apples/oranges, but more like granny smith/washington state apples...

Ultimately, you're comparing the same thing, sound quality...but towers and bookshelves DO have different characteristics, so a direct comparison is a bit odd (i.e. we know that a tower should have more bass, that's just a given)

Personally, I don't agree with Sids assessment of the RTi series, but it really doesn't matter.

The comparison he did were on HIS equipment in HIS room, so his findings are just as valid as mine.

I personally love the RTi series, I own the 70s and prefer their sound to anything else I've heard, but that's in my room with my equipment...

    It's all just opinion.....

I do agree that the constant (or at least perceived constant) bashing ot the RTi series does get a bit old. Sid, you're entitled to your opinion, and it's just as valid as mine, but you could state your findings with a bit more tact. Saying things like this or that is horrible or terrible is just going to offend people...how about something like "I prefer this to that"...something along those lines...

    Trey,

why edit everything out, everytime someone disagree's with ya... i agree with maniacs statements...
you don't like them, fine.. But i love mine also.. and out of all the models i like the Rti's as well.. shoot, i have a set of Rti38's set aside boxed in case i ever need/want them and by then they will be long gone from the used market..

alittle more tact is needed when someone really needs a honest unbiased opinion, and may not have the knowledge that even you have... your negative opinion could sway someone new away from a great speaker pair..

    Biased from what?

I had 3 pairs of speakers in here of the same series, in different revisions.

My 'biased' opinion came from long listening test and tweaking to see which one I liked.

I stopped talking about the RT line a LONG time ago - I rarely talk about it anymore - but he asked. I answered.

    RT8 on da da way.

    Hey, I try right?

My favorite tweak had to be the stacking...
