DVDShrink question

I've decided to back up some of my DVDs and actually put the originals in safekeeping and watch the backups on a regular basis...so I've got everything need and understand everything...just one question...

With DVDShrink, how much can you compress the video before noticing a difference? I've got a fairly decent TV at 57", but nothing too huge. Do you think I can get away with 85% or so, or is that too much compression? Anyone who's used this program, I'd appreciate any input...

    I've watched DVDs on my decent Toshiba flat screen, component cables from a cheap Toshiba DVD player, and I haven't noticed a difference at all when I use the special video compressor thing (not just straight compression... there's an option where the program will play around with the compression).

    Obviously this isn't an HDTV using a prog scan player... so make as many assumptions from that as you want.

    Strip out all the extra junk so you don't have to compress so much. For instance, you only need one audio track, get rid of the rest. Also get rid of previews, warnings, and extras. If you ever have a desire to see the extras, just get the original disks out.

    The only time I have noticed compression effecting the video was with Scarface at about 60% uncompressed. It was quite noticeable at that point. I really don't look for video quality all that often.

    I've done that, and I am still at about 83% with I Robot...I can get a little bit more if I keep the DD track instead of the DTS, but yeah, I've stripped everything out...

    I just backed up Spartacus this weekend, and even with just the movie and the 5.1, it had to be compressed down to about 62%. Stupid 3 hour and 10 minute movies! Damn you Kubrick!

    Keep the DTS and go with 83% compression. It was hard to notice any difference with 78% compression on Johnny English and you have seen the screen size I'm using.

    Yeah, that's what I ended up doing and I didn't see any difference either...I could up close, but who watches a movie from six inches?

    Okay, one last question - What's the easiest way to burn a DVD with a bunch of scenes from different movies?

    I haven't tried but wouldn't DVDShrink do that as well? Have you played around with that

    DVDShrink will "rip" the scenes, then you need another program like Nero or Alcohol 120 to "burn" them.

    When I rip the scenes in DVD Shrink, it's going to give me three options...

    rip them directly to a DVD (using Nero to burn)
    rip them to an image file (.iso)
    rip them as DVD files (I think)

    so should I rip these as an image or directly as DVD files? I assume option 2 since I don't know if Nero will let you burn multiple images on one disk...

    I think you need to keep doing option 3 until you get them all done.

    Then you will drag and drop them all over to the left and use option 1.

    Well, I usually don't start out watching from 6", but I invariably end up that way when watching one of my pornographic motion pictures. I can't seem to get any closer than that, though.

    Okay, I consider myself to be fairly intelligent, but I can't figure this out...

    Is there a way with DVD Shrink that I can rip just a chapter from a movie - without having to use the set start/end frame stuff...becuase that's going to be a **** when ripping multiple scenese from several movies, especially when I just want entire chapters most of the time...

    On the start/end, you can just pick chapter 18 from the start drop-down box, and pick chapter 19 from the end drop-down box.
