Problems with R15

hello,i own a pair of polk audio r15 speakers.Ive had them for nearly 2 years now but theyve seldom been in use.it jsut so happened that jsut as im ready to hook up my home theater(now) and i planned to use these as surround spund speakers i notice a multiitude of problems with them.
firstly,with both pairs,the Dynamic Balance tweeters are not outputting heights anymore.Also with one pair,the woofer is didtorting the bass making a noise which can be described by nothing else other than "farting".the noise seldom happens at very very low volumes but once the speaker is raised to a propper listening volume the noise begins.i identified this problem about 2 months ago and have not used the speakers since.However,today i decided to hook them up to test and both dynamic balance tweeters are not outputting heights.
any advice on what could be causing the problems or solutions for it?
PS,i never recall overpowering the speakers so i dont think that is the problem
