You can run those speakers off the head unit just dont crank them up or expect great sound out of them. But it wont destroy them.

$275 could get you an outstanding amp. I still vote to NOT go with Memphis. Im just not that impressed with them. I think there is a lot better out there.

Hopefully you could still get that Alpine once you get your money saved. Thats one of the best amps on the market. You wouldnt have to worry about upgrading then.

Ok, then I guess the deal is I'll run the Memphis speakers off the HU for a few months until I buy an amp.

Now, my only concern is how to mount the tweeter. I'm mounting it where the guy at the shop said they do it, which also happens to be the place I thought makes the most sense. It is the black panel on the door panel.

How would I go about mounting it there? Flush? Surface? What's the other one? How in the world would I do that?

Maybe I could just cut a whole big enough for the wire.....have the tweeter on the outside (of the black panel) and attach it.....how...?

I think this is the only part I haven't gotten down, yet.

surface mount it if you want a small hole, flush if you want a big hole...
you can use 3M double stick tape to make it stay

Flush mounting looks more professional but I am just too squimish about cutting a hole in my door! Ive always done and recommended surface mounting.

Your speaker kit will have the appropriate mounting gear. It will most likely be a mounting cup. Youll run the wires thru the back of it and a small hole in your door and then itll have places to screw it into the panel. Or if you dont want screw holes then do as Cody says and use 3M tape.

Well, gues what.......you'll never believe it......I'VE CHANGED MY MIND!!!!! LOL....this is almost hilarious

Anyhoo, I went to the speaker store again today, and I learned a lot. It appears that the $175 speakers that I was going to get were the display ones; that's the only ones they have. Also, they've been out there for over a year! On top of that, you CAN'T listen to speakers in their sound room off an amp; so they've been played off HUs.....and you know people have turned 'em up a bunch of times. So, now, I don't think I want those speakers anymore; sound like a reasonable conclusion?

Then I remembered that CircuitCity carries Polk's db series. So, we went there so maybe I could listen to the Polk db5250s and get a price. Well, they don't carry any component speakers.

So, I've now concluded that I am indeed going to get the MM6 speakers from SoundDomain if they do in fact still have any. I may not be able to listen to them at all for a while until I get an amp, but I think that given the circumstances, this is the best choice.

    Tell me what ya think!

Thanks for continuing to answer my questions and so graciously give me advice throughout this on-going sagga!!

You need to be bitched slapped! :p

Dude, I thought we decided against the MM6 cause they wont fit in your car without major work?

Go back to CC and listen to the DB coaxial. These will sound almost as good as the DB components and give you a good idea of what youll be getting.

Are there no other car audio shops in your area?

I decided against the MM6 because Mom and Dad didn't like the idea of me making them fit; I...repeat, I....was excited about it. So, I've just decided to do what I've pretty much wanted to do all along.

Audiobliss, I think I told you this a while ago, but I still have those new Polk dB650 coaxials that I'll sell you if you want. I'll give them to you for $75. They sell new for $120. That would save you $100 that you could put toward a new amp right now. Just a thought...
PM me if you're interested. I think if might have been you that said your parents were kinda wary of you buying something online from someone you don't know. If it would make you feel better, I could list them on eBay and give you the auction number. As soon as you bid, I could just end the auction early so you'd be totally protected through eBay's insurance thing...

    -Austin

p.s. I have 100% feedback. My eBay user name is austinkp if you wanted to check it out.

haha, thank you very much AustinKP!! That means a lot; and no, I don't think it'd be necessary for you to list them on ebay. That's very thoughtful and I appreciate it very much.

However, I just got back from the audio store and bought some speakers.

Not too shabby. Boston makes some decent stuff.

I really like their Pro series, actually better than their much more expensive Z series.

I think the RC is discontinued tho, I couldnt find them on their website.

Thanks, Mac; I certainly hope they ain't too shabby. I know that everything I've ever heard by Boston I've liked. However, I haven't heard these, and I know nothing about them. Anyhoo, they'll just drop right in, and they gave me some foam baffles (for protection againts water) and speaker wire, and a whole kit of mounting stuff for the tweeter all for free.

Also, the price was $160. Cheaper than the Memphis stuff. Is that a pretty good deal? I hope so.....

Anyhoo, I'm pretty happy.....maybe I can find out something about them online.......

Since I won't be getting an amp for these speakers for a month or so, I've thought that I won't install them until I do get one. Either that or I'll put them in and just not listen to them.

However, is there a reason why I can't hook them up to my home receiver to make sure they work? My receiver is 4ohm stable, so I can't think of a reason why I shouldn't......I guess I'd just like to hear them......

not a bad find at all--you should be very happy
and youll have no problem with hooking them up with your ht receiver but its best to mid on something otherwise itll probably sound kind of crappy

rofl....ok.....good........you had me going there for a minute....LOL

well, I've already hooked up one side to my receiver and am now hooking up the other side.

These crossovers are big, but I'm stuffing 16-gauge wire in 'em, and it's a tight fit, for sure!!

Thus far from listening from them I don't think I can complain....except they are quite bright.......I don't guess I can really tell until I get them installed, but right now I'd say they're a good bit brighter than my Klipsch; however, that could merely be because of the lack of bass in these Bostons.

I can say this, they'll take a good bit of power.....:D :D ......My receiver is rated to put out 110 watts per channel at 8ohms with .04% distortion and a peak of 240p/c at 40hms with .7% distortion......and I've turned it up quite a bit...:D :D

No, Bostons are bright. Almost as bad as Infinity. Thats why I never cared much for them. The Pro series sounds pretty good but still bright.

Once you get them in the car theyre gonna be worse at first til you get them dialed in due to all the glass and harsh reflective surfaces.

I wouldnt sweat it much tho. Once you get them installed and tuned up and all they wont suck.
