A new job....

.....it seems Mom wants me to get one for the new year. I can't blame her....the experience.....(and money ) would be good for me. She picked up an application form from Chick-Fil-A the last time she went, because we heard that they're a good place to work for. I was just wonderin' if any of you had any ideas that I might could consider for a good first job.
BTW, I do have a salary in mind.......I'll settle for...oh.....$30/hour........:D

work at the place you would most like an employee discount to
-
hahaha......yeah, that'd be great......however, the audio store I'd really like to work at......probably wouldn't consider hiring me because of my lack of knowledge......:(
and the only other thing I would like discounts on is cars and computers.....and they're the same way........:(George Grand wrote: »

Circuit City, Best Buy, Fry's, Tweeter's, Ultimate Electronics, Comp USA, etc... There are tons of companies that will hire entry level people. Based on 0 experience though, you'll be hard pressed to make more than minimum wage for the first couple months or so.There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

yeah, I figured that about minimum wage....what is it now, though?
Comp USA, BB, CC,....not bad ideas.....however, I really don't want to work at our Tweeters.....just don't like it. Also, the Chick-Fil-A is about 3 minutes from home; the other places are at least 25 minutes away.George Grand wrote: »

Def. go with something you will enjoy...working in a grease pit may not be your cup of tea....if you enjoy cars....work at a dealership washing......or as others mentioned an electronics store. Time will fly much faster and be much more enjoyable if you are happy....otherwise.....a couple hrs will feel like a full day.
-
I say do something you are interested in. If you like cars and have a licence you can work at a car dealer washing cars after school. Or detailing lot cars etc. I just noticed Willow said the same thing.
Anyway what ever you do, you wont be making a lot of money, but if you enjoy the work it will show and it will always pay off in the long run.Graham -
I agree. Get a job at a place where you are interested in whats going on. Really, at your first job or two, the experience, responsibility and more than anything, its the education that is the real payoff. The money is nice, but its the other things you take from it that are of real value.
Don't spend all your money on candy or girls either. -

A job doing something you enjoy is the best advice. Back in my day you could still get a decent paying job without a college education. And now 20+ years later I honestly can't complain about my job here because the pay is good, but it isn't something that I would say I 'enjoy' doing. I forget where I read it or who said it, but it went something like: If you get a job doing something you enjoy, you will never work a day in your life.

Try goin somewhere like Radioshack, especially this time of year. I started like three weeks ago, making commission. First week I made about $250, the commission compared to the hours, worked out to be about $8.85 an hour. Well, that's why I like the place....the only reason....I can't stand their food, but I really like the idea of not being open on Sunday.George Grand wrote: »

Why would you want monster products?
Radioshack lost my interest when they discontinued that stellar bookshelf they had...with that tweeter...awesome speaker...
and they discontinued it - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

Remember also that if you're going to be spending a lot of this money on new "toys" that most places offer employee discounts.
Another thought, if you hate the tweeter, work there and fix the place... Won't be at minimum wage for long! Sears was my first part time job over 20 years ago. I am now a design engineer but still keep working that job one day a week for the fun of it. Great discounts on everything they sell and you learn a lot about dealing with people. Parts and service is the place to be. Lots of entry level jobs available. One very nice thing about this company is they are not so nit-picky about what decesions you make when dealing with people, so long as they make sense. Worth checking into. I don't think I could ever work for many of the above mentioned places. I'm sure I would get the boot after a few weeks.

I work in the roadshop at circuit city - it's fun for the most part besides the lack of good stuff we have. But none the less it's great helping people.
Don't work in the food business... my first job was a host and I hated it. If you are working in sales... make sure you can explain things very well.
Everyone at Circuit City told me, "all you have to do is ****" but it's pretty apparent whenever someone doesn't know what they are talking about.
Good Luck with your job hunt and interview. Just dress nice, arrive early, and act like you have your sheeyit together!

The coolest job I ever had was catching shoplifters at a dept store here in our mall, Belk.
Man it was awesome. Got to wear nice clothes cause you got sweet deals on Nautica, Hilfiger, Greg Norman and everything.
Youd sit in the camera room nice and comfy watching cameras while your partner walked the floor til it was time to switch. While you walked the floor all you did was walk around and talk to chicks!
Then when you got to bust somebody you got to have some fun.
After you busted somebody, the cops would come out and site them or whatever then usually hang out with us for a couple hours just hangin. Then all the chicks would see us hanging with the cops and think we were actually cooler than we really were! LOL
The next best thing to being a cop for picking up chicks is to be seen hanging out with cops! LOLpolkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
