I agree that the RM6900 would kick the crap out of any Bose system. However, I do find that many people fail to set up their receiver properly for the Bose cubes systems. Since it is using speaker wire only, the receiver settings should have the speakers set as large and the subwoofer to no/off. If a person erroniously has subwoofer set to yes/on, then they don't get most of the bass.

Still there is no base (low) signal going to the unit (series II).
Not to sure of the other series. If you have a Bose unit am-10 series II.... try and ditch it asap!
    good luck

The 6800s might be able to accomplish that feat also.

YES, I can think of the next company that will !!!
When Bose goes bankrupt, they will simply rename the company!
That will be the new company that will eat you up at 400% !!

Even the cheapest Polks beat the Bose cubes in SQ. I've A/B'd them.

Yes, that may be true. The settings on the receiver to turn the sub on, must be on in my case because I have an additional sub. (definitive tech 300w) What do you do in that case? All of the experts at Bose Company certainly could not tell me, either because they did not know or just embarrased about the quality of their product. Personally I think Bose Company is very embarrased about the am-10's series II. So embarrased, they do not even list it on their web site any longer! The new polk rm6900 system that I have now is really great.

Whether that is true or not, it is irrelevant, Bose paces their marketing fast, the sooner they support something new, the sooner their sheep will buy it. Is Bose embarrssed by the quality of the am-10s? I think they'd have a lot bigger thing to be embarrased of. That's intriguing to think about, are the engineer at Bose concioensiously (Yup I spelled that wrong) engineering such a product? Do they know what they are doing...?

I've heard the Blose Lifestyle systems, and frankly the cheap Chinese off-brand Digix HTiB setup we got for my wife's folks (they're not audiophiles, they just wanted something that would play DVD's and make noise) at OfficeMax when I was working there sounds better...well, not as bad as the Bose. Only bose can give you $100 worth of sound for $1500... :D

(Actually, with some DIY tweaks the cubes that came with the Digix setup could sound rather nice, the 3" dual-cone FR drivers in the cubes look like little Fostex units...a little damping in there, and maybe dampen the pseudo-sub bass module cabinet...) :)

Bose uses CHEAP pos drivers in CHEAP POS enclosure with CHEAP POS amps and charge out-rageous prices.

People buy this POS equipment, and Bose remains the #1 audio company in the world in sales...

Yes, I already done that... It felt really good. Then I returned the unit.... Bose will what you call "digitally remaster it" which means a test run... ok, its good to go! what a shame, some other poor basterd is going to buy that same unit. I guess by that time if he is lucky it will be all dried up. Probably will not sound any different!

Next time your at the Bose store, pull the grill off of one of the cubes and see the little POS that is inside. The "surround" that goes around the paper cone does pretty much nothing, its made of a mesh like material. The grill will come off with a strong tug, then easily snaps back on.

Go to the nearest CC and practice on the single cube. Then, you can go to the Bose store and scare everyone.

    What a joke....

"Full-range drivers provide a more consistent sound field than conventional speakers that rely on woofers, tweeters and crossovers. They also dissipate heat more easily for greater power handling and increase dynamic range for greater clarity."

Converted a few more tonight. After my Bose demo comparisons, one guy bought Polk Monitors, a couple bought an Infinity set, and the other family that came in needed more time to think ( I don't blame them, sometimes being "de-programmed" is hard on the brain).

I changed my demo up a little bit tonight. I let the people pick out which dual cube they would like to use for comparison. This way they can't think that I'm tricking them with a damaged one, and it puts them more in control. I also pulled the grill off of a single cube to show them what "better research" gets them.

Usually I don't get to do this many Bose A/B's in one night but we were really busy with the after Christmas crowd.

Oh yeah, there was another one. A guy came in that already dropped $2k on a Lifestyle system and was looking for some Bose in-walls. I didn't have the heart to do the cube A/B test, but I did make sure to A/B the Bose inwalls with the round Polk inwalls. He was stunned at how much better the Polks were, which he bought!

    Regards,
    PolkThug

There will never be a next time I go into a Bose Outlet! I would not waste my time. Time is to short anyway!

    Relating Price to Quality

    just an observation...

Regarding the A/B test that I've been doing (mentioned above), I let the customers pick out which cubes they want to use for the shootout. They can pick from the dual cubes from an AM10 or the dual cubes from an AM15. The AM15 system cost a couple hundred more, I think the only difference is the AM15 has one extra 5" woofer in the 'module'.

100% of the time, without exception, the customers chooses dual cubes from the AM15 to A/B with.

Well, I guess that really makes sense. We're obviously talking about an uneducated (audiowise) segment of the market, so it seems logical to them to equate price with quality...I know I sometimes do......:p

We use to have those computer speakers round here somewhere...

Was interested to find how much abuse those took, when we first got our SPL meter, we turned them all the way up, right up on the speaker - we got like 122db...

was incredibly loud, and incredibly distorted.
